Buying a pistol in another part of the state

Just wondering if anyone might know: If I buy a gun in another part of the state, can I put it on my permit there, or do I have to go back to the county I got my permit from?

I believe you have to put it on the county you hold the permit in.

Have to have a coupon from your permit office.... Here in Livingston county they will give us one prior to any purchase ... Other counties they will have you purchase the gun then get the coupon (from your permit office ).. You take that back to the FFL that is doing the transfer. In all cases one must return to your permit office to have it put on your permit.... You can have one FFL send the gun to another FFL near you ... for a fee of course ...

You’d think you’d be able to purchase and register any pistol anywhere in the state.

I always have a coupon in my wallet, but my county is awesome (as much as a NY county can be anyway.)

I’d call your county permit office, ask them if they would issue a coupon in advance as you will be traveling.

I wonder if he can purchase the gun and receive the bill of sale remotely, and add it to his permit before going down to pick it up ?

That is how I bought my 1st one.
My permit was being processed and one manufacturer had a promo for free mags. No local vendors wanted to hold a pistol till my permit came through (after paying in full). I found a FFL in another county that would. I paid for it , he sent me a receipt and we waited till permit came . I went to Sherrif's office and got my new permit with the pistol added on it along with my coupon.
Went to FFL , did the NICS and left with my purchase.
Onondaga Co does not issue coupons prior to adding it to your permit.

Oswego county doesn’t have coupons anymore. My last purchase was in Monroe county, I bought the pistol without looking at it in person, seller dropped it off at his ffl and the ffl emailed me the sales receipt. Took the sale receipt to my permit office, they added it to my permit and then I drove to pick it up. I really didn’t want to make two trips for the transaction. Seller had good reviews and made the purchase as easy as it could go.

Now that would be a very interesting conversation in my County? The women who handle permits in the Sheriff's office would still be rolling on the floor in total disbelief and laughter for at least 15 minutes after I asked the question.

My wife and I both carry coupons in our wallets.

Just in case window shopping gets serious.

Only happened once, so far though. But the wife almost stayed in the car when I went in window shopping.

She ended up coming in eventually and found her current carry gun.

Because of the coupons we were able to walk out with it right then.

That would be a nice option. Unfortunately for us serfs in Orange County, once requested, expect 4 - 6 weeks to get your coupon. I'll be starting the countdown soon

Wouldn't it be nice if the entire State operated using one procedure instead of the confusion causing mis-mash that occurs County to County?
But wait, that might entail using some common sense and acknowledging the existence of the US Constitution.

If they acknowledged the constitution, we wouldn't be talking about this

No, because you can bet they would adopt the NYC procedure as the standard, not the Livingston county one.
