Cabin work II

Finally started a project I had hoped would already be done but got set back due to crappy weather, illness and others this past summer. This one is going to be a pretty involved project tree hit roof and deck this Spring the back part of cabin needs to be reframed and deck replaced.

Had to "break in" to cabin this morning as back part sank a bit since earlier this summer and door was completely stuck into floor. Couldn't budge it! Fortunately it's on list of things that will be replaced.

Got the deck demo'ed today if anybody in Orange/Dutchess area wants some free decking have about 150 Sq ft of 5/4 x 6 x 12 that still have some life left in them just need to be powerwashed and turned over. Wouldn't recommend for a new deck but could work fine for a shed or outbuilding etc. Pics below.

Back corner of cabin had nothing supporting it (no joke) I threw a couple 2x6s under corner until I can get it figured out.

Free decking if anybody could use it (underside is in good shape) note the framing in pic will be discarded there are also a bunch of spindles that are still usable...

I'll check with my parents. Their shed is falling apart pretty fast. I think my cousin was going to refurb it. If not them he might be interested in some of it himself. If I hear anything I'll let you know, but if someone scoops it up faster by all means give it to them.

Duh! I'm focusing on the house and didn't notice the three footings in the foreground.

Another footing for deck and pad for stair landing today. The old stairs were just siting on a few cinder blocks that were lying on ground. Surprised the stairs were in as good of shape as they were. New pad is 5-1/2" deep and now on about 2" of tamped gravel. I went through about a dozen bags of concrete mix. Will sleep good tonight!



The real fun begins tomorrow lol....

I agree. Maybe the pictures look worse than it is, but this looks like it’s better off being torn down.
I mean anything can be rebuilt but it sure looks rough.

The stuff that's bad is being replaced I haven't seen anything that has me too nervous yet lol.

Put in a couple of "bigfoot" piers today. Ends of cabin are dipping about an inch on both sides I'm going to jack it up and run a beam under the floor joists with posts down to the new piers then tie the beam into new 4x4s set on the three existing footings. Rim joist is rotted but floor joists underneath are still solid. End of cabin is being reframed along with the shed style roof...

Well got the ends of the cabin level still a small hump in center I think it's being held up by the center post. Going to cut it out and replace the three original posts tomorrow hopefully center of cabin will settle down. Pretty sure it will.

Well, all the rot is gone!



Floor joists are all good. Framing under door was a little funky had to add some stubs and some other framing to bring original joists out to the rim joist but all in all no biggie. Reset one of the original "footings" on a couple bags of paver base. Not too worried about it with the new piers.



Cabin is flat, level and pretty solid. Going to throw in some cross bracing as per original.

Pulled end of cabin off and reframed it today...



Didn't have sheathing before... well now it does (at least on this end lol)



Wrapped it for the weekend will cut door and windows next week...

Got the roof framed just need to trim rafters and install fascia. Ran out of daylight wanted to get the roofing or at least ice & water shield on to waterproof it. Ran some flashing tape over seams in case it showers tonight. Hopefully will get roof done tomorrow before it rains. Door will be in on Monday have to go to South Jersey to pick it up. Seeing light at end of tunnel just hope it's not the freight train LMAO...

And turned it into a closet.
