Can JD Vance Be VP and Senate Majority Leader? Charlie Kirk Floats the Idea
ith Republicans taking control of the Senate for the first time in four years, the party will need to select a new Senate Majority Leader from its ranks, and an unlikely candidate has emerged: Vice President-elect JD Vance.Kirk said that the basis of the appointment would be John Adams' leadership of the Senate while he was George Washington's vice president, though the role of majority leader did not exist at the time.
However, Kirk argued that the Senate rules allowed a vice president to take more active control over proceedings, telling Beck, "John Adams presided over the U.S Senate as Senate Majority Leader 200 years ago, as vice president of the United States. I think JD Vance should be president of the Senate and become Senate Majority Leader.
Kirk had some caveats though. "JD would have to really want it, in the sense that it would be a ton of monotony to sit in the chair and listen to procedure stuff, and you'd have to go to the Senate lunches, but he would basically be the president of the Senate and be able to set the entire tone of legislative agenda.
