Can we CCW in a bar/restaurant in NY Legally?

I tended bar for a living and have done so for over 30 years. I always carried concealed when I worked but never drank while I worked, for a variety of reasons, not just because I am armed. When Hochul's new CCIA came into effect I contacted the NYS number that answers questions regarding the new laws. I had a pretty long conversation with the trooper sergeant, and he told me under no way is anyone allowed into a bar or restaurant with their legal concealed weapon. Even I, as an employee of the bar can no longer do so. I told the trooper that on any given night at least half my customers are carrying a handgun and he said that they are doing so illegally and of caught will lose their license and face felony charges. I then told the trooper that none of these guys have permits, and they really don't care to get one. He really didn't know what to say about that. Interestingly, an off duty cop can come in the bar with a handgun and drink but that is perfectly ok.
Let me add that in those 30 years, there were 2 incidents where, if I was not armed I would not be here right now. Last summer at the bar I worked at we had 5 gun incidents outside the bar in one month, including a shooting between rival gang members, a guy outside the bar with an AK threatening to shoot people in the house next to the bar, 4th of July night a guy with a handgun shooting across the lake at 2am, and a kid with a pistol threatening another kid and 2 hours later he did shoot at the kid. In the town I live in there was a shooting in May, a woman got her throat cut in front of the police station a couple weeks later (probably the only reason she survived was because the cops were close by and able to keep her alive for the ambulance) a rape in an alley off main street and last weekend 3 people got stabbed in a fight outside a bar.
I finally said to hell with it and retired. I am just too old for this crap.

I don’t blame you for retiring, I question why you would call NYSP of all people with these questions and why you would disclose to an unknown sergeant, who has your phone number, and probably your name, and access to law enforcement databases, that you run a state-licensed bar that half your customers are illegally carrying at. Unless you already hated your bar and customers and don’t have enough problems in your life.
