Ontario court freezes access to donations for truckers' protest from GiveSendGo
TTAWA — The Ontario government says it has successfully petitioned a court to freeze access to millions of dollars donated through online fundraising platform GiveSendGo to the convoy protesting COVID-19 restrictions in Ottawa and at several border crossings.
The province obtained an order from the Superior Court of Justice that prohibits anyone from distributing donations made through the website's "Freedom Convoy 2022" and "Adopt-a-Trucker" campaign pages, said a spokeswoman for Premier Doug Ford.
Ivana Yelich said the order binding "any and all parties with possession or control over these donations" was issuedThursday afternoon. She cited a section of the Criminal Code that allows the attorney general to apply for a restraint order against any "offence-related property."
Among one of the questions MPs had about the millions being generated for protesters through crowdfunding sites was the appearance funds were being sent anonymously.
He pointed out donors must use credit cards to send money and the fact that GoFundMe offered up refunds after it shut down the protesters' campaign demonstrates it has the information it needs to identify an individual.

I’ve been thinking about how to put this into words and I finally have found the words to express my thoughts. There’s a distinction between a protest and anarchy/rioting. I’ve heard people say how can you support this trucker protest but was against the BLM protests. When BLM first started protesting they were peaceful. I did not like them protesting (because of their message, ie to say that only Black Lives Matter and not all lives matter is racist and divisive) but they had a right to March in the streets, chant,wave signs etc. the problem I had was when it devolved into anarchy, vandalism, looting and general rioting. When I saw Niagara circle downtown spray painted and trashed, the federal courthouse downtown with its windows smashed, city hall with a Molotov thrown thru the window in an attempt to set it on fire, a black business owners van set on fire and burned and numerous small businesses smashed up, that’s when I had a problem with BLM. If the trucker protests devolve into thuggish behavior like that, then they lose my support. There’s a fine line between protesting and acting like a thug. If one can not tell the difference, then no matter what argument I make I will not convince one either way. There’s also a difference between fighting for/protesting for freedom vs racial treatment by police. I rank fighting for the right to leave one’s house, being able to choose what to put in one’s own body, being able earn a living, more seriously. I also take into account if the cause you are fighting for is morally just. Standing up to a tyrant, is more serious than police profiling. Now if the Canadian government decides to escalate things into violence against peaceful people and do grievious harm to them and or threaten their lives with death, then I have no problem with such a response being met with the same response. If the truckers decide to be the first ones to escalate the peaceful protest into violence, then I have no problem with the Canadian government responding as such, as it would now be a violent riot. I understand not all will agree with the distinction I make and how I feel, and I don’t begrudge them for having a differing belief from me.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said in a bulletin to local and state law enforcement agencies that it has received reports that truckers are planning to “potentially block roads in major metropolitan cities” in a protest against vaccine mandates and other issues.
Ford said its Windsor engine plant reopened Thursday after being shut down on Wednesday because of a lack of parts. But the factory and the company’s assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, near Toronto, were operating at reduced capacity, the automaker said.
On the U.S. side, General Motors canceled the second shift on Wednesday and the first and second on Thursday at its SUV factory outside Lansing, Michigan.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer urged Canadian authorities to quickly resolve the standoff, saying: “It’s hitting paychecks and production lines. That is unacceptable.”
