Carrying in Philadelphia with non resident permit.

Not sure if this is the appropriate sub forum, but as title says, is it legal to conceal carry in Philly if you have a non resident permit? I’ll be heading there soon and normally carry through PA. I’m not sure if the non resident permit carries any weight in the city though, cause cities usually have their own special laws. Just to clarify, I’m not talking about reciprocity with my NY permit, I actually went and got one of the PA permits a few years back in coudersport.

Anyone have experience with this?

I have a non-resident PA permit, and have had for almost 25 years now. I don't recall any special restrictions regarding Philly, but that very well may have changed. If I were you, I would call the Sheriff office that issued your permit and ask them. I always renew my permit in McKean county. I have their phone number if you need it.

I did a cursory search on PA gun laws and the only thing I saw on the official pa.gov website was that to open carry or CC in Philly you had to have a license/permit. I just wasn’t sure if because of it being non resident it was less valid or something.

Odd, but true. I had read previously that Philly (or was it Pittsburgh?) had exceptions, but I found:

Under current State law, Philadelphia is unable to pass laws on gun ownership or selling a gun.
Philadelphia is unable to create restrictions on guns because of a state law that says “No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.”

Philadelphia City Council has passed gun-control bills in the past, however the courts have struck down these bills.

That's why the mayor of Pittsburg couldn't pass the "assault weapons" restrictions that he wanted after the attack at the Jewish temple a few months back. I knew this law existed, but was not certain that Philly didn't have some special exemptions. I don't believe that they do, bit I'm not certain. Still, my best advice would be to call an issuing authority and ask their advice. They may give you the phone number to the Office of the Attourney General. That would be the final authority.
