CASE TRIMMING

I just started prepping rifle brass, I trimmed two gallons of 223 brass.
My trimmer is mounted on my reloading bench. What a mess, all of that little brass trimmings.

I unscrewed the trimmer and will be mounting it on a piece of either 3/4" or 1" plywood and trim out In the work area of the shed or outside on the picnic table if the weather is nice.
My reloading shelf is mounted in a 6' x 8' walk in closet with carpeting. I don't want a that brass trimmings in the carpet or on the reloading bench top. I' post a pic later.

Where do you guys do your case TRIMMING at?. Just curious.

Mind you my stuff is all packed up but I have plan for my next bench to address this issue. I plan on mounting a shop vacuum off to the side and run piping to my bench. I'm going to try to find an end piece of hose that has wire in it so I can position it to catch everything. There is a more expensive option that Dillon sells that has a die that sizes trims and has a vacuum attachment all in one. I will eventually go this route when I have more money.

I don't have room to go that route with a shop vac. It would be easier to just trim elsewhere and leave that space open.
Them trimmings are small and a PITA to clean up with a brush.
The containers in the first pisture on the right side of the shelf with the blue handles each hold about a gallon of brass. I have it all 100% ready to load except two containers of 30/06. They need to be trimmed, i,'l wait until next weekend or the one after to take care of them.

I have an RCBS brass prep center that sits in a cake pan when I trim. All the chips stay in the cake pan and I just empty it when I am done.

get some laminate snap in flooring and cover the carpet in that area .. small nail gun to pop some small nails in to hold it in place .. or a few wood screws in the corners ..

i have the same trimmer, mounted it to a block of wood and i clamp it into my vise when i need to trim. another improvement i made was ditching the hand crank knob and setting it up so i can power it with a cordless screwdriver.

if i were to start over again with reloading, i would get a WFT trimmer and skip all the other bs.

i only process brass when i am extremely bored, weather is too bad to do anything else, or if i am staying home sick. so far i have never come close to running out of fully processed brass to reload.

How many loadings on average do you get from the brass? And then you throw them away? I like all aspects of reloading just for the fun

I don’t know. I don’t process my own anymore. I buy brass when I need it already processed.

I had an automatic and annealing machine at one time.

If you Anneal them you can get a lot more loadings out of them.

I noted above, for $ 70, $80 or $90 per 1000 is simply not worth my time to process rifle Brass.

AND i was using a 1050 to do it. Still not worth my time.

I'm confused now lol. So when you DO buy brass I assume you reload it? And if so, after you fire it do you just leave it where it falls?

I actually make mt friend relaod it. Yes. I leave it.

If i need brass to swap for processed i buy it from “my guy”.

I usually dont swap it.

Cheapest way to shoot rifle imo.

all good as long as you can trust the source IMHO

but then after you shoot it you have to do the trimming if needed again yourself to reload it ..

I think what he is getting at is that even after he shoots it, he doesn't reload it.

There's just something about reloading that I really like. Now that I can shoot on my property any time I want I no longer get that jumping out of my skin feeling that you get when you really want to shoot but can't. You know when you sit at your house molesting your guns and are dying to shoot them but can't.

I know all about that. When I was back there in New YORKISTAN I could just walk out the back door and shot or go hunting.
Out here in Washington State I have to drive at least fifteen miles for a so-so place to shoot. My favorite place to shoot is about 40 miles away then six miles out in the woods. That place is done until about mid May, to the beginnng of June because of snow. It is way up top of one of the mountains out here. Your ears will pop as you climb up there in the truck.

I love my time in the gun room reloading, it so much more fun having my 6 year old grandson here to do the gun stuff with.

Piece of paper towel, when done, roll ok up and throw it away.

I will be buying a power trimmer here shortly.

For what I have invested in everything I bought so far, I doubt I'LL ever recoup the money reloading, but I really enjoy my time up. In the gun room with my grandson.
He is getting a early education on reloading.
At six years old he fully understand the process.

You could also put the trimmer in a box and cut out the side with the crank/drill adapter.
