Like everyone else you make assumptions. You are assuming he was about to be attacked by a mob and that deadly force would be used. It did not happen. Had it happened he would have a case. Think of it this way. I am at a shooting range, three guys have handguns on them and so do I. They are pissed off at me and want me to leave. I think they might gang up and kick my ass or perhaps even shoot me. Should I draw my Gun or just tell them I am leaving.

You tell them you're leaving, and you do so. If they follow you and continue to stalk you in a threatening manner, there's no reason why you're not justified in drawing to defend yourself.

You are missing the point, you forgot REASONABLE! I saw no one with a weapon in the group just before he pulled his gun so where is the Reasonable part of the equation. It only takes a second to make a decision to use a weapon and I see no logical reason for him to do so other that FEAR of the unknown, which is not reasonable. Had he see someone approaching him with a weapon he would have just cause but that did not happen. He just pointed his gun at unarmed people in a threatening manner. Where is the deadly "physical force" you think he was concerned about? Show me where it is in the video clip just before he pulls his gun.

The mobs superior numbers constitute enough of a danger, they do not need to produce weapons. They merely need to demonstrate their intent and ability to cause serious harm. Intent was obvious to any reasonable person here, and their numbers demonstrate the ability.

Will, there is a level that has to be reached before it becomes a deadly force issue. Cops get bottles, bricks and all sorts of things thrown at them. They get spit upon, beat up and everything else. They often get confronted by mobs, have molitov cocktails thrown at them. The list goes on and on.

And they would be fully justified in shooting in most of those circumstances.

Justification comes down to 2 things, intent and ability.

Their numbers give them the ability to cause serious harm or death, so that is covered.

Then it comes down to intent, does he reasonably believe that they are about to use that ability.

That is the only question.

Some of us have to get up at 4am to go to work. I don't know what it is with you in thinking I'm refusing to answer a question. I did multiple times to both scenarios. You will see so if you read back. But you were stuck on just 1 or 2 as if you can only do 1 or 2 in a real live scenario.

They wouldn't gang up on you. It's a gun range with law abiding citizens.

But to indulge you in your fantasy world, if you truly believed somehow that they were going to hurt or kill you, you walk away if you can. If they pursue, you protect yourself.

Is that good enough or do I have to answer only from 1 or 2? If it's only from 1 or 2, you are shit or of luck because I don't give bad advice. The world doesn't work with just two options. Various factors come into play. Are they pointing guns at you? Are they holstered? Are they following you as you are leaving?

It depends on what they are doing as I wrote above. If they are just cursing at you and not violating your space, you walk away. If they approach you with guns in hand, you fire.
