They seem a little pricy, hopefully prices will come down. Wish they made the ported versions.
There seems to be a little confusion on the capacity of the SBL, CSBL 6 or 8 shot?
I really like the side port loading feature. Marlin 1894's are quirky but once tuned they're great shooters.

I own a 444P; 5 shot capacity. I load w/240g JSP. Makes the 1894 look tame.

I would be excited if these were the Marlins of old but these are Remlins and history strongly suggests I should be wary until these Remington / Marlins are proven. In fact with the listed prices in Winchester territory ...

My wife's Rossi has been a finicky, frustrating pain in the ass. It's a consistent tweak/adjust and then test process.
I read the Rossi success stories and turn green with envy.

The story is that they have fixed the manufacturing problems. When Remington first bought Marlin they had worn out machinery and that was causing all of the issues. They have since retooled everything and all of the new guns have been functioning well.

IIRC some of the manufacturing problems cropped up @ the move when they went from hand finishing in CT and increased the automatic manufacturing and finishing. They attempted to cut labor cost by increasing automation. In the early years they couldn't produce a .30-30 Remlin for beans. Some of the fit and finish boners were obvious right on the shelf in the gun stores. The good news is the horror stories are 5+ years old with no recent sightings.
I know members on another fourm that complain daily about the crap that Remlin still produce. The most recent, was a guy that ordered a 1894SBL during Christmas 2018. He received it with a canted front sight. He sent it back to Marlin for repair. When he received it back, the front sight was still canted. But Marlin thought it was ok to tweak the XS sight rail so the peep sight would line up with the (canted) front sight. The guy was so furious because he paid $1000 for a piece of crap & shit service.
Another member owns a gun shop, talks about (w/ pics) the number of Remlin's that he receives from Marlin that has to be returned because of poor quality & he won't sell it to a customer.
Others have had jamming issues, poor fitment, dark bores, etc..
There are many bad stories about Remlin's even to this day. That's not to say you can't find a good one. You need to inspect them "thoroughly". (but I'll stick to my "JM's".)
The 1894SBL & 1894CST as been on sale for a while now. I know a few guys that brought them.

I understand that some people were taking advantage of some shot show specials and were buying some Winchester carbines at Marlin prices.
I'm still hoping for both a good Marlin and Winchester for my NY herd. I am also going to look at a Henry Long Ranger in 223 or 308. So much to shoot. So little time. Never enough money.
