Folks years ago one could order a truck load of concrete and next day pour. I understand that today that order is pushed out to 3 weeks before it arrives to the job site.
No truck drivers.

Masons say they cannot find helpers at all. He claimed one cannot find helpers that will work for $20/hr any more. lifting block 12 a day all summer. .. Mind you folks .. I have been told that Target is hiring at $24/he stocking shelves ... (with air conditioning ) ..

I've said it before and it's completely true. When you set up a system where people don't starve / freeze to death they will exploit it and make it a way of life. This one truth is why we're at with our current labor shortage. Nothing more.

I think we’re headed for the wage/inflation spiral like people/experts have mentioned. Where I’m at I think will soon be the minimum wage. I make $65-$70,000 and I think that’s where the liberals want the minimum wage to be so the majority of America depend on the government to survive. I hope I’m wrong.

last night passing by to dinner there .. house has 3 rows of cinder blocks on the cement foundation now .. and a pile of prebuilt rafters stacked up..

My brother talked to someone about the rise in heating fuel prices ... Man claimed he has HEEP to pay his fuel bills. He did not care about the propane costs

They are paying that much (target). Why would I work that job in concrete if I could load boxes on shelves for $24/hour? Pay 30 and hour and you'll fill it. If they don't want to pay that much that means the job will likely go unfilled. Supply and demand applies here - there are an abundance of jobs paying $20+ an hour that are easy. If you have a job that is hard (physically or mentally) you're going to need to do better than $20 an hour. It's just that simple.

For the record, I negotiated over an 11K raise this year. If they didn't pay me I'd just take myself (and experience) elsewhere. Know your worth and get your worth. A business will cut you in an instant if it's in their benefit, so you should do the same.

Did you get a good raise this year? If not demand one. If they refuse just leave for another job, you'll get paid more.

It’s not that simple for me. I work for the government and all raises are set. My job has a lot of advantages so no I didn’t get a good raise. I got 2%, but our contract is up soon and I’m hoping for larger raises. They are having trouble getting and keeping people so I would expect something, but you never know.
My wife just came across a job that she is qualified for that would be a $70,000 raise that she may apply for. It’s more travel than I would like for her and it maybe in some unsafe countries so if that’s the case she’s not taking it even if offered. Time will tell. She also may get a raise from her company now.

In some large corporations knowing your worth isn't enough.

Even your boss knowing your work isn't enough.

The HR department thinks your entire department isn't worth much, you're never going to be paid decent without leaving.

Also, for your wages to rise, your company is going to have to raise their prices, welcome to the inflation spiral.
