Chaos Erupts At City Hall Hearing For Proposed Gun Bill

Chaos erupted Tuesday at a Baltimore City Hall hearing for a proposed mandatory one-year sentence for possession of an illegal handgun.

The Baltimore Police Department says two men, a 29-year-old and a 27-year-old, were arrested. They have not been officially charged.

At least one person was injured as police pulled people from the room, and an ambulance was called to the scene. Police say the 27-year-old who was arrested complained of chest pains after being arrested. He has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After all of Tuesday’s events, council members voted through the amended gun bill by a 5-2 vote, moving it to the next round.

In a matter of minutes, rising tensions overflowed, police moved in and people pushed back, which ended with two arrests and a lot of upset people.

Police were called to move in as activists clashed with council members inside a meeting on a controversial gun bill. Council members had issued several warnings before officers started removing people.

I support NO permit on guns EVER, I support the 2nd Amendment, too bad the "Conservative" US Supreme Court does not support the 2nd Amendment.

That stated, actual gang members with illegally obtained guns should be thrown in jail without the chance to plea bargiain.

I think the concept of illegal gun has to be coupled with criminal intent. Consider the fact that city services and response time is getting worse. Gang bangers do home invasion, elderly couple pull illegal gun from cupboard and dispatch 5 gang bangers. Should the elderly couple do 1 year for possession of an illegal gun? Consider, in NY it can take 24 months to get your permit, in NYC they're unaffordable (nearly). Laws are supposed to protect the innocent and punish the criminals.

If more people sat on their porches with shotguns and AK's in crime infested neighborhoods and drug dealing areas I'm sure the undocumented pharmacist would reconsider their strategic business plans.

Carrying or using a firearm while committing a crime should carry a hefty penalty with no chance for plea bargains to lower it.
That city council missed their stated goal by a mile with this stupidity.

No permit should be necessary to own any guns, much less a handgun. Now... commit a crime with a firearm? Yep, chrow da book at 'em!

We are so permeated with the thought of having a license to have a gun, this argument seems so foreign, like what's the problem, lol

But possessing a gun in itself shouldn't be an issue, committing a crime with one is a different story tough?

All failed thinking... We cannot legislate morality! And the only thing a punk bully, like gang-bangers understand is a good punch to the mouth. Yeah, that's right... Stop controlling what will control the criminal who doesn't obey law. Stop handcuffing law abiding citizens and letting criminals roam the streets! Enforce the laws already on the books and stop harassing lawful citizens who protect themselves from these low life's! Make it public, take out a known gang-banger and receive a public commendation . Maybe even a week vacation to your choice destination anywhere in the nation! Yes, a bounty! Want to see gang-bangers hide? Just declare open season on them and they'll scatter like the rats they are. In a few short years there will be no gangs, not on public display anyway, they won't dare tattoo themselves, nor congregate in large numbers...
