Just providing citation for what @Twogunwilly said... it's a provision of NY law whether enforced or not is anybody's guess.

But he had an assault charge and an unlawful possession of a weapon charge from 20 years previous.
Both "serious offenses" so he was disqualified by NYS law.
He tried anyways.

May I also suggest maybe getting Certificates of Relief for each of your offences. I also know a guy with a similar past as yours who got his pistol permit after getting CORs.

That is very true, but then they probably wouldn't issue it lol. That's why we all need to vote, and vote these constitution violation politicians out of office.

Thanks. Yeah I don't have anything violent. Serious offense is sort of a loose term open for interpretation. Ive seen serious offense is an offense punishable by more then a year in jail.y offenses were punishable up to a year imprisonment. I never heard of COR. I'm gonna look into it thanks a lot.

I was just looking into the COR, LOE can still see the arrests. My hearing is in a month so I don't think I would have enough time either
