They couldn't put him away for the murder so they used the weapons charge. I wonder how many other people received similar sentences for the same offense.

The family dynamics for thanksgiving within that clan ought to be pretty bizarre.

The receiver of a firearm in a straw purchase is equally at fault as the buyer is. And it sounds like this judge threw the book at him since they had a swing and a miss on the murder charge. Reminds me of OJ getting sentenced to 33 years for armed robbery.

He had the friend buy it for him with the intent of commiting a felony, trying to cover his tracks or maybe he couldn't purchase it himself.

But yeah they made sure he didn't get away with killing his dad entirely imho.

I wonder what happened to the actual buyer. Tan was offered a plea deal "of much less than 20 years" but the defense rejected it. Now he will serve the full 20 year

I believe they gave him immunity for blowing in Tan

The last I read they declined to bring up charges per the local DA.
