Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn is a good place to go for this. It's been few decades since the last time I did this, but I don't think this has changed. Blue Sea was the boat we preferred, but others were just as good. There were plenty of spaces on these boats.

It all depends on what you are going for.I can only tell you what he charged us,we got the special "friends" rate.I would contact them via that web link I posted.He takes up to 6 people.Its a charter,not an open,walk on boat.He may be able to make arrangements to put you on with another group if you have a small,2-3 people group.Just a guess,but I would think 5-600 for a full day/night trip,but dont quote me on it.They stay pretty well booked up all season.I expect to book a late September bass trip next month.

So we ended up going to new hamsphire for the trip, lol more than 4 hour drive. anyways, not a good overall haul, this was between me and 2 other friends, in all between our group of 8 we probably caught 50+ total.
the trip itself was fun though, also it was a bit cloudy, the water wasnt clear and it rained a few times. Could be a reason why the mackerel werent biting?

Imo the only thing we might do better than most others food wise is BBQ and smoking.
BTW if you aren't the biggest fan of the fishy taste of fish smoking it is a 10/10 way to eat it without that taste. Especially if you can cold smoke it at like 160 iirc.
