You realize that DuPont quit making IMR powders about 40 years ago, right ? If you bought it for the antique can, you did alright, bit I don't think it's wise to load with that powder.

40 years is old but not out of the relm of use. Open it and smell it, then pour some out on white paper and look for rusty looking particles and make sure all grain look the same. (like all are sticks and not mixed with ball.)

Id use it to make homemade M80s maybe. Definitely not for reloading.

If you do reload with it, make sure you stay alert and keep a rod on you in case you get a squib.

Just reloaded 44 Mag with it. All went bang. 240 grain bullet with 22 grains of IMR 4227 and Magnum primers. Seems to be fine but I took all the precautions mentioned here.
Can will be worth something too. If there is ever anything wrong with a powder, I fertilize the garden with it.
