Just found the forum from a google search. Little back ground on myself, I'm a young 52 year old who's just getting into shooting. Haven't hunted in 35 years or more and embarrassed to say haven't shot a pistol yet. Just recently applied for my permit so while I wait I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible. Plan on taking a few courses to get off on the right foot. Looking forward to interacting with everyone and research and learn along the way.

Off to read the forums.

2 Months and a few days. Still waiting on the permit. References have been in for 2 months, fingerprinting was done the same day I turned in the permit paperwork. Spoke with the Sheriff office last week and was told all applications are still moving thru the system. Just not sure how quickly with everything going on. Sheriff dept said I would get a call or a letter in the mail when approved. To date none of my references have been contacted. Just continue to wait. Can't even order my pistol. So I'm envisioning another waiting period for my pistol to come in after I place the order. :banghead:

My brother got his pistol permit for Broome county over the summer, took a little over 2 months and they never called his references. He didn't hear a thing from them after he handed in his paperwork, permit just showed up in the mail.

Covid might slow things down but your probably close.

Also check out rjw sales from Green. He carries a good amount of handguns in his shop( garage shop), not sure if he is still open but shoot him a text message and he will get back to you.

That would be great! Thinking of ordering both pistols at once so I'm done messing with paperwork and all this waiting.

The Broome county Sportsman's club is expensive ,but offers a lot. It's located in Kirkwood. Might be worth a look.

Not too bad for just the outdoor range. That said I wish they would upkeep a little better. Archery range is mostly destroyed targets and no back stops. Target stands are usually always destroyed on the rifle range.

Seem to be more focused on the hand gun range / indoor range. It's right down the road so I stay there because it's convenient. Looking into joining silver lake rod and gun club.

Where is Silver Lake? I've never heard of it.


I am member in Bainbridge and Onenota. Bainbridge is cheap and secluded. Just a 100 yard outdoor range that's close to my house. $25/year. No hassle.


Oneonta is everything Broome us and more. 200 yard covered rifle range, skeet range, indoor pistol, bass pond, and hunting property.

Sadly, I let my membership to Broome lapse, and the other two are closed because of the virus.

Brackney PA , been there a few times with my uncle and it's pretty nice. They setup a nice 3d archery range in the woods , indoor archery range, trap, skeet ,100yd range and I believe a 400 yd range.

I had no idea. I used to live in Vestal, just moved like 5 months ago. That sounds pretty good. Thank you, if I move back that why I'll look it up.
