HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chemung County Sheriff William A. Schrom and Tioga County Sheriff Frank Levindoski announced a cooperative initiative to assist residents of their respective counties to apply for non-resident pistol permits.
Tioga County residents who either own land, work, or frequently conduct business in Chemung County, or are current or retired law enforcement will be eligible to apply for a New York State non-resident pistol permit at the Chemung County Sheriff's Office in Elmira. Likewise, Chemung County residents who meet the requirements will be able to apply for non-resident Pennsylvania permits at the Tioga County Sheriff's Office in Wellsboro.
The deal is identical to an agreement Chemung County established with Bradford County in 2016, which Sheriff Schrom says has been a success.
Tioga County residents who wish to apply for a non-resident New York State pistol permit can pick up an application at the Chemung County Sheriff's Office Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $15.00.
Chemung County residents who wish to apply for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Concealed may pick up applications at the Tioga County Sheriff's Office Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
