Agreed, as bad as we are China isn't exactly the most financially secure nation. It's currency is pegged to ours after all and if the dollar tanks so does the yuan.

USA had a good run. Its future as losing #1 spot is irrevocable. Basically the USA got tired of winning and now spends inordinate resources not on investments but placating an increasingly idiotic electorate.

In some defense of this inevitability though China does have four times the population, so it's actually a bit lame they've taken this long.

It's going to be interesting (not in a good way) to see how the next few decades pan out, as the #1 or #2 super power continues to plow ahead, with a substantially unified population (unified through a communist technocracy). There is already limited outlet for disparate politics there and their social scores and ever growing monitoring will help ensure the government can go in the direction it wants. Our own morality, particularly in regard to war, will be challenged because an immoral country pushing the the technological boundaries will automate as much as they can and if we don't do the same we'll be weak.

To add to that theory the older folks vote Republican more and are more conservative. I wonder if the lack of their care was to throw the election of it was going to be so close.
