I had a Chinese kid over my house for thanksgiving and he said it’s really bad over there. He said lots of mandatory testing and they go back to everyone you had contact with, then another step, then another step and forced lockdowns. He said where he lives there are only two entrances and they literally lock you in. He also said when he came here they had one social media ap finally and it’s obviously monitored. He also said upon arrival here he had to take a video call with the local police to show that he arrived where he claimed and his dorm room. I said I’d refuse and he said well funny thing is his parents were locked in the police station until he did that and his parents would be jailed if he didn’t. I was surprised by the storied he told. I thought some of the media interpretation was embellished but it appears not to be.

He hates China. He will not return there and I think his family left. They were all born in India and emigrated to China for a better future for their kids. Now that their kids are grown up and have left China they are all leaving. He said he will stay in the USA or go to Germany. He especially thought the Covid restrictions were extreme and he did not wear a mask at my house.
The one thing he praised China on was the crime rate and how low it is. He did their punishments are swift and severe so you normally don't dare. He also liked the cost of goods and services in China. He said you can get a nice meal for $0.05 USD but he has what he claimed to be a good job over there and make $2.85/hour. I told home what my property taxes are and he said that’s what we pay for four apartments per year in China.
So to answer your question he’s not happy there but misses the cost of goods, but incomes seem to match that for the most part.

I think it is awesome when the people, wherever this occurs, step up to a tyrannical government. In the case of China, the Communist Chinese are brutal. These uprisings, these protests by only a few thousand people are going to go nowhere.

I wish them the best, but this is their doing. They allowed themselves to be sheep and cattle of their governmental system. The Chinese government will allow this to go on for a short period, the government will tell these people to go back to their homes and if they don't this government will squash them.

I am not a pessimist, but this little uprising is going to fail miserably for the Chinese people.

This is the Chinese citizens chance to make or break. I find it interesting that in a population of 1.4 billion, that so few are willing to fight for rights. My guess is that so many are absolutely dependent on the state for everything, they are so remote that they don't even know, are brainwashed into worshipping the state, just don't care, or some combination. I offer my prayers in their support, however it is their battle to fight. We are busy here in the USA with our own.

We don't hear the half of what is going on in the world. Our media is fully corrupt.

As for China and their lock downs, it's all coming here with the next pandemic. The world will be going through a major power shift and the people will not get in the way.
