Democrats have decided to oppose nearly every one of President Trump’s nominees, and Betsy DeVos seems to be a particular target. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer unleashed a verbal assault on the education nominee on Thursday that might have made Harry Reid blush, and it deserves notice as a sign of the political times.

“The president’s decision to ask Betsy DeVos to run the Department of Education should offend every single American man, woman, and child who has benefitted from the public education system in this country. Public education has lifted millions out of poverty, has put millions in good paying jobs,” Mr. Schumer declared in a statement. “Betsy DeVos would single-handedly decimate our public education system if she were confirmed. Her plan to privatize education would deprive students from a good public education, while helping students from wealthy families get another leg up.”

ya, public schools around here are exemplary with a 39% graduation rate. The inner city has a ridiculously low attendance rate. And common core has been a spectacular success ~~~ not!

This offends me:

If anything that shows Chuck is full of crap. The wealthier you are doesn't mean you're getting a better education overall.

I like teachers. I want our kids to have good ones. But we also have to not turn a blind eye to the fact that unions which push for arbitrary increases in funding without good underlying reasons are hurting kids because they don't want to fully understand what constitutes a good education.

This is what I propose: We evaluate each teacher based on where the students are, on average, 10 years after moving on. Has the student done well? Did the student think the teacher contributed to their future success? No? Then get the teacher out of there.

Lets pay the good ones well and kick the bad ones out. No more tenure.

Exactly. Elected officials in Washington know more about the needs of our children and the status of our local schools than we do. They are certainly the most qualified to make decisions about our children's education.

It isn't so... The WEALTHY aren't concerned about where their kid is going to school, they just pay to make sure they're in the RIGHT school. The WEALTHY aren't overly concerned about education, because they will have life fulfillment activities given to them by their association/demographic. Harvard is assured, as is indoctrination into the "CLUB". I can assure you, as I have family members work in these institutions, where grammar school is $40k+ per year, that the masses little understand the concept of wealth. The WEALTHY need little in the form of a "LEG UP" on anything when their WEALTH is equivalent to a few thousand of a normal average every day person's LIFETIME earnings. Lmao... Chucky... Tisk, Tisk... And people buy this shit!

Chuckie wants to keep them in public schools so they don't graduate and stay on the free bee Democratic handout line.(votes...votes...votes..) I moved from Buffalo's east side in 1962 to West Seneca....I was a straight A student in Buffalo....had to work my @$$ off for a C average in the burbs.
