Yeah if an EMP really did that it would be super bad (awesome for a week or so and then get bad). I just don't believe NK could do that; we're not that vulnerable to an EMP without multiple launches focused more specifically than a single explosion somewhere over the country.

exactly, A hydrogen bomb may be able to take out a large region , but even they have limits of range, It would require multiple strikes with hydrogen bombs to create a EMP that's take out the whole country .And he doesn't have that yet. Soon, but not yet.

What happens when Korea sells multiple bombs or rockets to Iran? or Syria?

One of the funniest things about stories like this, many of us here on this forum, have been talking about these dangers for a very long time. NK is nothing to mess with. They are dangerous. They may be the most dangerous foe the US has had in many, many years.

If our elected officials do not start to take this little nation and its' leader very serious, they could inflict massive damage around the world.

Instead of looking for ghosts in the Trump administration, Congress should be concerned of the impending threats from the fat little Korean!

We did try to negotiate with them, spent decades doing that.

Kim made out very well in those negotiations. He got nukes, money, ICBMs, reactors, all sorts of stuff. Us, not so much.

So, after decades of appeasement, you'll excuse me if I think it isn't a great idea to continue.

And they said this gem in their media statement
"The North said in its statement Sunday that its H-bomb "is a multi-functional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated even at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack according to strategic goals."

It made no sense to me at first , why would they bother ? he had only a few smaller atomic bombs which would be very limited to small areas if at all, And he would have required a lot of them . But now, it looks like they knew this all along or knew that it was only a very short time before he got the big one.

Now, I don't know if the US will fight . The consequences could be catastrophic.

I have a hard time believing that the CIA or South Korea's version of the CIA doesn't have a boot on the ground next to him that can assassinate him or at least tell us where he is.

Excellent point.

I think we've known or suspected for awhile they have this capability.

As insane as NK has been, if you look back at all their poorly worded grand statements boasting of their supreme achievements, you will look back and realize they were actually telling the truth so far on pretty much everything they have said. Its just easy to shrug them off because they appear silly and backwards and our media sucks.

I think at classified briefings our government knows far more about their capabilities than is being publicly released, but I think a smart person can read between the lines of what NK is saying, what our government is saying, what our government is doing/training for and the truth is somewhere in there.

I think NK has had these capabilities for some time(and our government has been aware of as well) it's just that for whatever reason Kim has chosen now as the time to make a public world statement about it.

What is unclear to me is if they really want to attack us or if they really only want us out of the region. Both are against our foreign policy but knowing would give insite into how alarmed we should be and how far they might be willing to go.
