I went to the Hamburg news conference, and Collins explained that the reason the bill does not address handguns is because they felt it would have a much better chance of passing and being signed into law if it was more narrowly focused on long guns. And, as written, it certainly seems as though it would gut much of NY(UN)SAFE.
I think that we need to keep in mind that this bill is not tailored specifically against NY(UN)SAFE, - it is designed to be able to get enough support in Congress to get it passed, - and the fact that it would gut much of NY(UN)SAFE is...too bad for Princess Qhomo. I think the fact that Qhomo felt the need to try and tweet his anger and threats to file suit against it speaks to the very real possibility of it having a decent possibility of passing.
OK, so it's half a loaf. I'll gladly take it if we can get it signed into law. Sure, I wish it did away with the unconstitutional crap we endure regarding our handguns. But I would be very happy to get rid of the fucked up and neutered long gun restrictions, and the magazine restrictions as well.
And cramming it up Qhomo's ass would be a very welcome bonus.
So yeah, concerns not withstanding, I'm supporting it.

I either didn't make myself clear or you misunderstood my post. @thewheels said he didn't think this bill would make it but hoped he is wrong. I was referring to many people not thinking Trump would win but turned out to be wrong. Just trying to use a similar analogy, that's all.

I'm not sure why people are taking this the wrong way. They wanted to see concrete movement on something pro-gun. The aforementioned list of folks with S.C.O.P.E. actually did something to protect everyone's 2A rights and they made it past the first step - getting SAGA sponsored. They were provided with a copy of the bill's text. They can choose to support it, not support it, attack it, or do nothing.

I applaud you're digging in with both feet. Me, I'd prefer to wait and see how serious this effort really is.
If it turns out to be another pig in a poke, I'd expect you and others live up to your bravado and admit you've been duped again. I will without question admit my "lack of faith and support" PUBLICALLY if I am proven wrong.
I see a politician introducing a piece of legislation designed specifically to repair his damaged image based upon insider trading investigations and having to admit on the Fake News Network that he doesn't even read the legislation he is voting on.
I also see a strategy that may work IF it's allowed on the floor of the House and Senate to be voted on. There will be an all out push to deny the bill being heard and a 60 vote threshold in the Senate is a TALL order but stranger things have happened.
Looking at things from a realistic point of view doesn't lend itself to blind trust. Remember, we're talking about a party that can't repeal the ACA after promising the American people for 8 years that they would.

Chuck, I do respect your opinion, and will admit to having the same feelings, but Any attempt to thwart this abomination of a law and I'm on board, what pisses me off is that there are at least three other amendments that law stomps on and nothing is being done about any of it. And, yeah, I will admit to throwing in with a lost cause if indeed that is what this turns out to be, but you know what, if the next day another plausible idea is put forward I will do whatever I can to help out with that one to.
