Colt Government 1911 .38 price

A guy I know through someone has one of these and needs to unload it fast. I was asked about it and I said I don’t want it but if it’s cheap enough I’ll buy it to sell and make some cash.
Its plain Jane series 80 black with black grips. Serial number says made in 2004.
I looked in gun broker and one is similar bid uo to $800 with 4 days left. What are these worth and what’s the demand for these. I told the girl this was my plan and she could tell the guy and I’m not looking to screw anyone. It’s still at the cop shop since his dad died and he still needs to get it out. He’s leaving Friday to head back to CA so he’s in a bind.

I'm guessing it's worth about $1000 if you can find someone who wants a 38 super.

Back in the day there was a .38 Special that exclusively shot semi-wad-cutters.... seldom if ever see them being used anymore, same as the PPC Revolvers...Typically Series 70 with a Retail (condition dependent) around $750 for a super nice one.

A Colt in 38 Super retails around $800. condition-condition-condition.

38 Super is a dying caliber, so price accordingly. $800 seems on the high side since it's not a vintage gun.

People have been saying that for decades, but they still make 38super 1911s. A 38 super is far superior round for self defense when compared to the 9x19.

Because it is a colt if it is pretty close to mint condition. 800-1200 dollars is about right.

Well we will see no word yet. Last I knew it was still at the cop shop and he was asking for them back. He has no NYS permit and thought he’d be able to just walk in there and get his guns handed to him. They said nope there’s a process here’s the paperwork to fill out. He has a permit from CA and will be taking them back there but the .38 Super isn’t on the CA approved guns list. I don’t care either way and I’m thinking I’d toss the guy $400 for it. Otherwise I don’t want to be bothered. In my defense I did say he’s probably better off taking it to a local shop that sells on commission for 15 or 20%. I don’t know they will accept it from him without a NYS permit.

I saw that and figured I'd post about both.
"Retail" on used guns is pretty subjective, funny thing is when they're in the Shop for sale those high prices seem normal, but at the Show they're bitched about as being outrageous. $800. is a LOT more than I'm willing to pay, especially for .38 Super, but there is still a following for them, same as 16 gauge Shotguns.
I've had a few over the years, they're a snot-box, and still a popular caliber in Places where 'military' calibers are prohibited to civilians.,
