Complete AR upper advice

I am looking at finally assembling an AR onto my stripped lower. I would like to go with a complete upper at this time.
Visiting a local gunstore, they have a "used" 556 upper, with bolt carrier, charging handle, open sights, and a keyhole style handguard...I believe rifle length gas block...for $379.99. The sales man said it supposedly was either never fired, or only a few sighting rounds.

Does this sound like a good deal, and what should I look out for?

With all of the hullabaloo, I would like to get this going before our Dictator/Tyrant wannabee decides to ban them completely.

From my experience, seems about right, doesn't sound like it has any name brand parts or anything special. When I got my complete upper, it cost a bit more than that, but it had a lot of pricey shit on it.

Maybe this is just me because I had a bad experience, but I upgraded my charging handing to a beefier unit after having a bunch of problems with steel case rounds and a bent charging handle. Maybe not an issue if you don't shoot steel case, but I also went for the higher priced stuff to match the quality I bought into for my lower. If you're just looking to quick get one together right now, go ahead and buy it. I knew I wasn't gonna build one again soon, so I spent a little more overall.

Any identifying marks as to who made this upper assembly?

It sounds like a good deal but brand name would help in identifying if it's a good value or not and also if it was a build project for someone. I have both bought complete uppers and built my own. Personally I would hesitate at buying an upper that was built by someone I don't know (without the ability to test fire it) vs. a complete upper by a manufacturer unless the shop owner willing to stand by it.

I wouldn't at almost $400 on a McParts upper that's used.

You can buy a new whole rifle parts kit for close to $250.

Due to extenuating circumstances (namely, having to help care for my sister's retarded son) I was unable to get back to the shop before my flight back to New York.

I found this, and ask if it would be a good first rifle:

Also, since I intend on having all the 'evil' features that gives our Tyrant nightmares, I will be going fixed-mag. Any advice on a good magazine to use (some said to get one where the bottom can be dropped out) as well as a rear pin with ring for easier removal?

Generally the best mag is Lancer L5AWM. Either 10 round or 10/30.

10rd PMag for function or a 10/30 Hexmag for the full "evil" look are the only ones I know of that drop free from the manufacturers. By a DD's Ranch MagLock (it's literally just a faux mag release assembly) for 25+ship and grab an MA Loader or two so you don't have to open the top and get a ringed-pin.

Every other MagLock I have ever encountered tries to be too fancy or complicated and is usually over 40 bucks before fees. With the DD at least if you get a jam that you need the mag to drop (beyond the baseplate dropping out), you can uninstall the release without needing to separate the two receivers - which in a jam situation you likely won't be able to anyway.

I haven't gotten one yet, but I have a feeling they're the same no-name parts kits everyone else is selling.

How does a spur enable you to have the other 'banned' features?
It's more than just a pistol grip. If you have a detachable mag, you can't have ANYTHING else.
I WAN'T all of the 'evilness' that makes the Tyrant wet himself. And, since it won't be for home-defense or 3-gun, a fixed mag is acceptable, and easily converted back if/when the Tyrant is finally removed from office.....
Or I finally give up on this State and leave for actual parts of America.
