Compliant build questions

I'm doing a compliant build for a friend and we both have some questions. Since I don't really have any experience with compliant AR's I figured I'd ask here. So anyway, its between a standard AR with the FRS15 stock and an SCR. He's leaning SCR (it does actually look cool) but I have a few questions.

1) I know the forward assist is useless on the SCR but if I used an upper with the FA on, does it get in the way of your trigger finger when using a regular rifle stock?

2) One of the big reasons he is hesitant on the SCR is the lack of aftermarket parts. Like he likes that he can just drop any AR trigger in there. I know there isn't an aftermarket SCR trigger but has anybody done any trigger work to these with positive results?

3) This is more of a general opinion question, assuming the laws never change, do you think there will be aftermarket for the SCR? He likes the look of the SCR but doesn't like the stock or the fact that the bolt catch is removable. He has no problem building the SCR but he said he's taking a gamble that there will eventually be an aftermarket for stocks, sights, triggers, etc. Once their patent expires do you think we'll see other manufactures producing SCR lowers?

4) Anyone have any experience with a pinned and welded "fake" flash hider? GTG or should I just get a crowned barrel?

5) Any experience with the Gen 3 Thordsen stock? I think it looks ugly as sin. Is it that much better?

The updated trigger pull is about 4.5 pounds, no aftermarket support as of yet.

Very doubtful, the market for these guns are mainly based in the ban states most companies are not going to go after the few buyers in those states. The Stock from the Remington 1100 has been successfully adapted to the SCR. All the upper parts for standard ARs (sans the Bolt Carrier) are the same, only the lower components are unique to the SCR. The patents are not going to expire for about 16 more years who knows what is going to be happening by then.

No experience with Gen 3, took my Thordson off in favor of the spur. The ergonomics just didn't work for me.

I've seen dozens of companies spring up with maglock products, I'm just wondering if anybody will develop some stocks for this thing. Even a modified Magpul or something. Rubber buttpad, spacers, cheek pieces, etc would make it much more comfortable to shoot I'm thinking.

I have both the gen 3 and the gen 2. The only difference with the gen 3 is they give you spacers which allow you to adjust your LOP. Other than that it is only aesthetics.

I've used faux muzzle devices from Northern Gun Parts on my rifles. Pinned and welded on. They in essence are no different than a pinned and welded muzzle cap only they look better.

They've been seen by local and State LE that I shoot with, some friends, some not. To a person they've never said anything other than "where did you buy that from" and "that's cool, you have an extra one to sell me? "

I have 2 of the NGP faux muzzle devices on a couple builds. While they are aesthetic only, they look a lot better than a thread protector/cap IMHO. The folks at NGP machined this device specifically for NY with an OD of 0.74" so you could remove the gas block over the pinned hider if the block ever malfunctioned. Sandy and her husband who own the shop are nice folks. Buy a couple.

I built a rifle recently with the SCR lower. I was pleasantly pleased at the trigger. I have an original Thordsen stock sitting in the closet as I find the SCR is the best option for me.

I actually worked with Sandy on their development of the 2.25" fake flash hiders for 14.5" barrels. I am just afraid to actually use them until there is 100% certainty they are legal. Technically it is still a "threaded" barrel.

What did you use to time the device BTW? A crush washer wouldn't allow the gas black to slide over it.

i would 100% not put anything on the muzzle because you dont want to have to go to court to fight and prove it does nothing.

I think its the least offensive compromise and only a little ugly.
detachable magazines are more important to me than a pistol grip or any other feature.

That grip still protrudes. It works in CA because they define that a pistol grip allows the thumb to wrap around or something or the other. We have no definition.

i see your point about no NY definition, nobody wants to be the test case!
Vagueness is one of a tyrannical Governments tools!

Yeah. I'll admit to being one of those guys trying to look the other way and pretend what below could mean to serve my purposes. I finally gave that up when I asked 3rd parities that know nothing about guns what they thought of the grips I had after showing them the law. These are the type of people that will be on the jury.
