Conceal Carry while driving through NYC

I'm surprised this hasn't EVER been challenged in state or federal court, NYC is STILL part of New York State. Due to the anti-gun activist judges that we have here I don't see a win on our side if we were to challenge it and it would set bad precedent. This is one of the MANY reasons Concealed carry reciprocity needs to pass, and we can tell NYC and NYS to fuck off. You can carry legally in suffolk and nassau county, but if you cross the border into queens carrying you are committing a felony...ridiculous.

Can you think of a single other state that has gotten away with something like this? (i.e. an individual city refusing to recognize permits issued elsewhere in the state). Even ultra anti-gun California does not refuse to recognize CCWs issued throughout the state in its major populations like LA, San Fransisco, etc.

Not so much that NYC does not recognize NY pistol permits from other counties, but the State Legislature in Albany is what has allowed it....PL 400 would have to be amended, the only NY state pistol permits from outside NYC valid in the 5 boroughs are those marked "retired LEO". In a potential challenge to the law this is a clear violation of the equal protection clause of the the 14th amendment.....however that didn't stop a liberal judge from ruling in favor of NYC to justify the $340 extortion fee for a "premises license ".

Don't forget the part of needing to renew it every 3 years! It is like they are just asking people to not follow the law. And then they wonder why there are an estimated 2 million "illegal" guns in NYC. Make me sick.

Even crazier than that. One time I was headed back to my house in Great Neck and the exit on the LIE westbound for Community Drive/Lakeville Road was shut. I had to exit at the next exit - Little Neck Parkway. For about 2 minutes I was in NYC space, technically committing a felony. All for an unexpected detour.

• Florida, for example, does not recognize a NY pistol license, but you CAN have a loaded gun in the passenger compartment of your vehicle, in the glove box (but not on your person), and you CAN have a loaded gun in your domicile. There may be an age minimum.

• Maine, New Hampshire and West Virginia do not honor nor recognize a NY permit, but they have Constitutional Carry (if you can lawfully possess a handgun you can carry there).

• S. Carolina, New Mexico and Georgia do not recognize NY permits, but allows anyone with the ability to possess handguns to have a loaded gun in the passenger compartment, in the glove box or concealed (depends on the state, check and know the law).

• Wyoming does not recognize a NY permit, but if you can lawfully possess a gun you can have one in your car - OPEN CARRY only.

My advice in general is to know the law for every state you touch - and sometimes the adjacent state(s), in case your travel plans go sideways. A few years ago I was on I-84 going to PA, and they shut the road down due to an accident near Port Jervis. The detour was in NY, but in 3 minutes I saw a sign saying "Welcome to the Gulag". Longest 5 min of my life.

Many of us have lived some version of our own horror story. I was (lived) in Yonkers right near the NY City line - as in within 150ft of it. If I crossed the street to order a sandwich or pizza, with gun on person (I never did this) I would be breaking the law.

My last piece of advise is, if you like you sphincter the way it is, you can probably keep your sphincter that size by following the rules. If you (any of us) get busted, first it closes tighter than a submarine hatch at 2000ft below. One of my clients is a criminal defense attorney in Manhattan who does a fair amount of work defending against "gun charges" - he has successfully defended ordinary citizens and a few NYPD officers. He says the stress is unbelievable to the accused. Fat guys lose 20+ lbs in less than 3 weeks, and he also says these defendants are burning thru money like it's no one's business.

If you can't for some reason follow the gun rules - and I will never advocate anyone breaking any gun rules...if you can't follow the gun rules, for ****'s sake make sure you are not breaking any other rules, or bringing untoward attention to yourself.
