Personally, I would have called police and kept my gun concealed.

That would be my preference as well, but with knives and bats someone could be dead in 30 secs. Call 911 for sure, waiting for them is a judgement call. If they both strike me as scumbags, maybe let them go at it. If one looks like he might be a decent guy, maybe not.

Agree completely. We don't know who instigated the altercation or who may have escalated it. Our CCW is to protect us and our loved ones. It's great that this worked out, but it might not next time.

It's a tough call, but my inclination would be to immediately call 911, stick around at a distance while shouting and trying to get their attention to stop, and probably intervene (again, from a distance) if I thought either one was about to be seriously injured. If they're just cussing each other out while waving a knife and bat toward the other, that might not warrant any intervention by me. But one blow to the head, or stab wound is enough to critically injure or kill a person.

Now, if I did that and one or both start to turn toward and threaten me, well, that's a bad move on their part to bring a knife or bat to a gun fight.

From the article sounds like these two idiots in the fight knew each other and were having it out. My gun would stay holstered while I called 911, I am not putting myself in a position to have to defend myself (legally) from using my firearm to save two hoodlums in a knife fight.
