NYPD whooops ..
This is in the cop forums. It’s not what it appears . That bridge is cashless tolls with no toll booths. It takes a picture of the license plate and mails the bill of the EZpass device isn’t there or working . One can take that bridge everyday and never know there was a problem with the EZpass and they suspend the car registration via computer and do not necessarily notify the owner in a timely fashion. The person with an EZpass can still have money in their EZ pass account if the device isn’t working and still owe money to the MTA because of the license plate photo billing. Plus the license plate billing is at a much higher rate than the EZpass rate.$1350 in unpaid tolls and $14100 in fees... yep sounds about right in this God forsaken state...

It can escape one’s notice because EZpass is not a regular monthly bill. It charges the credit card if the amount in the account goes below a certain amount. If the EZpass isn’t transmuting properly, that amount doesn’t drop to where it would repenlish the account .
The detective did not try to evade payment. He did not cover his plates or another method of evasion of payment . He asked for them not to impound his car but they did anyway. And he got a ticket for driving the car, not for attempting to evade payment because he did not.

Again. He didn’t try to avoid payment. He attempted to avoid getting a ticket and towed. A ticket for a registration that he probably didn’t know was suspended.Exclusive | Cop with $15K in unpaid tolls, fees tried to dodge trouble by flashing NYPD badge
