I used to use Break Free CLP since that's what I learned to use in the military.

I switched to Mobil One after reading about it and found that it worked way better than CLP.

My dad has been using WD-40 for over 50 years. All his guns are in good shape. All the myths about it have been false. There is no rust or gumming. I tried it and it works better than the above two for cleaning. It doesn't lubricate as well as the above two but you know what? My Glocks and AR work just fine lightly lubed with the WD. In fact, they'd run just fine dry so the added lube it provides is just a plus.

It's real easy to clean with and smells wonderful.

WD-40 for me from now on.

I've been trialing Ezox. It is a clp of sorts. It does clean very well, but is more of a coating/dry lube. My apartment has a lot of moisture and so I've had to look into ways of protecting my guns from the moisture. I just started to notice rust forming when in previous apartments there was no issue. While I at this point, I wouldn't recommend it for lubrication, it is very good at protecting from rust for long term storage. It goes on wet and then drys so there is no oily residue on your hands when you handle the gun. Just know that the more you handle the gun you will need to re apply a coating of Ezox.

Freakin Trailer Queen safe guns. The only oil My fav gun ever seen was off a 350 Chevy motor dip stick at 2:30AM in morning Coyote/Fox hunting LOL. Get a dehumidifier. They work.

@ArmedCorgi Just to let you know I have one of those types of dehumidifiers in the room that has my hot water heater in it. We have a split level that is 100% finished and that's the only room that gets moisture. If you keep it on 35-40% it should be just fine. Anything less than that and it may actually make the room too dry. To where it burns your nose. That's why I say they work. You can set it up to drain out to somewhere with a tube in the back or contain the water in the unit. If you do it that way you just have to keep your eye on it and empty when almost full.

I will look into it. I looked on the specs and didn't see any square footage but I think it would work. There is a bathroom near by where my safes are that I could put this dehumidifier in and have it drain into the tub. My bathroom has a stall shower and a bath tub/shower, we really only use the stall shower. Right now we have a floor unit AC venting out the bathroom window and draining into the spare tub. Weird question though, is it better to have your dehumidifier away from what you are trying to protect or closer? I can see it both ways.

Wherever you have it drain to just make sure the drain hose flows downward. In other words make sure the unit is higher that the drain hose. When I think tub I think the hose has to go up and over (if even just slightly). Make sure it flows 100% downward or it won't work properly. Some water will make it into the unit and you'll have to drain manually anyway.

It shouldn't matter where you put it. I think I see what you mean about it being close to what you are trying to protect, but it only removes moisture that will occur as it gets to the unit via air circulation. At a certain point the unit will overtake the moisture in the air and the area will stay dry as long as the unit is on. It's not like it can make the area even more moist. Think of it as a moisture remover, not a magnet.

How much space are you trying to dry, @ArmedCorgi?

I have something similar to what @gun_slinger_boy linked, maybe a little bigger (picture) in the basement that keeps about 300 square feet perfect. I don't drain it, I just empty it maybe once every couple weeks (unless we have a lot of rain /snow). This is in my basement about six feet from my gun desk and ammo storage and I've never had a problem since getting it. I keep guitars down there, too, if that's any indication of confidence.

We also have a dedicated White Wing Defender in about 500 square feet of crawl space storage nearby, drains directly into washing machine drain line but probably a bit more dedicated than you need.

I would agree with the general principles GSB outlines above though I am pretty sure that White Wing has a dedicated pump. That thing can move a lot of air and moisture but was also expensive. Though I did get me a nice long 1/2" masonry bit which I haven't used since, as I had to cut a hole through a cinder block wall to run the tube to the laundry room... :rolleyes:
