Honestly, as an end user, I don't have an incentive to upgrade this time around. @SonOfSun can back me on this, but unless you're designing a game or something that requires a high end GPU, realistically you can use the same laptop for work for the next 5-6 years easy with just a battery swap and dust blow out periodically.

It's been 7 years. I need an upgrade. But for the most part yes, unless they stop producing security updates.

What good is the new technology if we end up outsourcing it from Taiwan or China. They can still dictate who gets them and how much we can have.

Start manufacturing chips in the USA. They are critical to our life and should not be farmed out to other countries.
Most electronic devices are built almost completely by machines . It won't affect the price of manufacturing them .

Yes... I agree, but. We don't have the people that "want" to work. That is the problem.
People want to sit on their couches, in their sweatpants, getting paid to watch Netflix by the .gov, with a BigMac and biggie fries, and a large Starbuck fattening latte to go with it...
The other problem is restrictions, laws, mandates, etc. Which is the reason why all of it left in the first place.

The new tech that will give us chip autonomy from outsourcing is graphene. The R&D on graphene technology is nothing short of world changing.
I've posted about graphene before. The advancements are beginning to payoff. The University of Arkansas is a frontrunner in their development of graphene in chip making due in part to funding from the Walton Foundation (Wal-Mart family). As much as many loath WM this technology can be the game changer for chip independence.
