Hmm, my first thought is "no problem" as once youve paid your debt to society there should be no more "punishment" for your past behavior....... but....... the problem is our system is broken, and caters to certain populations by plea bargaining down violent felonies to misdemeanors or less. Our CJ system needs to be fixed to work properly.

Those same Records that 18-19-20 year olds have to wait two weeks on an Enhanced NICS Check before being allowed to complete a transaction?
Ironic that the government can create, maintain, and examine all these Records (often in spite of a Judges order to seal) and yet a perspective employer can't ask if the applicant has had a felony conviction or arrest.

Bullshit. My record went on closed file too. 20 years later I applied for a pistol permit and the nice sheriff called me and said "I had been arrested 20 years prior". I said "thats on closed file and the judge said I would never have to tell anyone I was ever arrested", he said, "thats true, except for Pistol permits. I know it was a bogus charge because you were released within 24 hours. Just come down to the office, change your answer and initial it, I'll explain to the judge what happened, you should be good-to-go"

Sure enough, 48 hours later I had my permit. However, it seem very troubling that my file is, apparently, still "open"

So im not holding my breath that this "sealed" bullshit is going to actually seal, anything

Plea bargains should be banned.

Prosecutors should be ethically bound to charge exactly the crime that was committed, no more, no less.

And no "dropping charges" for anything if there is enough evidence to convict, or even if it's likely such evidence exists.
