Most people in the North East are children of immigrants , not all, but a lot. Out west you can find older family's None of my family were here before 1900.
My paternal grandmother's family came here in 1620. My maternal grandmother's family came to NY from NJ in 1795. I recall one census where a "mulatto" is mentioned as being in the household. I have no idea. Even if they did "own" a slave, I have nothing to do with it and I will not apologize for something that I didn't do.My mother's family bought their first land here in 1637. Worked their own land. Never had a slave or a servant.
June eleventeenth?Every time I read or say "Juneteenth", I laugh.
It is a funny word. I am going to incorporate that word into my everyday life.
