When I was growing up, radio programs like "Gang Busters" used to tell stories of lawmen fighting gangs running gambling rings, bookies, and drug pushers. Now the state is the bookie and is soon be become the pusher. And there is preponderance of gangsters who are politicians.
So for arguments sake...
We could all of a sudden with no notice find out on let's say, jan30th, that effective immediately all semi auto rifles are now illegal with no notice or warning?

I’m done jumping through their bullshit hoops. Years back I spent probably $500 on Preban mags only to give them to a friend after safe act passed because I didn’t want to be a criminal. Now I have permanently fixed mag semi autos requiring side loading and I’ve had to spend hundreds more to get these compliant loaders. At some point the average law abiding citizen in ny is going to have enough and just stop caring about their continued efforts to enforce gun control. I know some of you are laughing at the “at some point” part

SAFE 2.0 will happen instantly like the first did. Anything you don't have now you won't have. I wish I had bought an AR or two pre 2013 so I could have grandfathered them in with the extra features, but you can still buy lowers now. They are $100. They are serialized, you can build the rest out later. You can still buy/own new detachable mag ARs as long as you get the thordsen stock (or similar).
Nobody has yet had the balls to try and ban ARs entirely in recent years. Could certainly happen, though.
Then yes. In January 2013 you could buy a full featured AR. And then all of a sudden you couldn't. The state grandfathered in those already owned. And why? Because some guy committed a mass-shooting because somebody else did a straw purchase for him. There was already a law on the books--a pretty serious one--broken to get him to that point.
But then you run the risk of jail time. This is a war of attrition. Easier just to do what you did, comply piece by piece until eventually the closest thing to a functioning semi auto rifle is a new nerf gun.

There would be no way of ever knowing if what you put down for that question was true unless you had previously been convicted or if you voluntarily sign up for something like a medical MJ card. I can almost guarantee that in NY you will need to go through some process in order to buy MJ legally. Yet another reason the black market will stay alive.

Between Cuomo undoubtedly making the tax on weed so ridiculously high (like cigarettes) and the other tricks that he probably has up his sleeve. Pot smokers will just continue to get their weed as they always have. IIRC 27 grams and under is just a violation anyways. I might be a little off on that number but I know that I am close regarding 27 grams. That's just under an ounce of weed...
But Cuomo will stand on the podium and once again declare that NYS is the progressive capital.
When in reality all this is, is a way to bring in some tax revenue and more importantly it will give him leverage against other things. such as the 2A.
Cuomo could take a cure for any major disease... And fuck it all up by playing political games.
I know a couple of people who still smoke weed, they are both good earners and good husbands and fathers.

The bill came out beforehand. I can't remember the exact timeline but it was weeks. I remember making lots of calls to Dean Skelos's office to not bring it up to the floor. He was actually holding out for aa while unti Cuomo brought something out on him.
When he finally brought it up to the floor, that's when Cuomo called an emergency vote.
Afterwards, we had one full year before the changes came into effect.
