Originally in September at the gun show at the NYS fairgrounds, I bought a CZ 457 At-One Varmint, a 16.5” threaded bull barrel in a Boyd laminated At-One fully adjustable stock. The Boyd stock was horrid, rough as a cob, poorly finished, I even got slivers off of it. None of the adjustable pieces moved without being pried, the whole stock was a 7th wood shop that got a C-. I removed the action, using a scotch-brite pad, buffed it smooth and had a friend refinish it. I loved the barrel/action combination, but the stock was terrible, it had to go. Before I refinished it, I had called CZ, they said it was a Boyd problem, Boyd said send the stock back, if they felt it was a real problem, they would fix it, then said it would be 4-8 weeks turnaround, that’s when the decision was made.
I then ordered a KRG Bravo chassis to replace the Boyd stock. The ergonomic of the chassis was far better than the Boyd, to finish it off, I installed the Anarchy Outdoors mag filler piece, to fill the gapping hole in the both of the chassis. The only other thing I did was order the extended mag release lever from DIP. I really like the CZ/KRG combination. Did the KRG make the CZ more accurate?? Maybe, but the fact I feel more comfortable shooting it, make where the potential is far greater.
About the beginning of December, I found the exact same model CZ 457 At-One Varmint for sale, at a LGS, I looked it over, the difference was staggering, smooth as glass finish, the adjustable pieces actually worked, it felt better, so I bought it. Try as I could, while huge improvement over the first one, I could not get use to it as about 3 weeks later I had ordered another KRG chassis, so both of my CZ 457s are in KRG chassis now. Now I love the CZ barrel/action, but I love the chassis too.
