Dang Shoot'in Steel is a lot'a Fun!!

This was our second Sunday shoot'in steel at my Club ( SaraSpa Rod and Gun Club - Home ) the pit was a bit muddy but no one cared! We had 9 shooters again 2 were new. This a new activity and we are ironing out the wrinkles. This will be for both center fire and rimfire pistols and rimfire rifles ( no centerfire rifles ) and PC carbine. So it opens it up to a whole lot of members and even non-members!

We shot 2 stages with 6 strings/rounds for each stage. All for a grand cost of $5.00! Such a deal!! Last week I shoot my new S&W M&P compact 22 and this past Sunday I went with the Full size M&P 22. I believe we are skipping this coming Sunday and possibly the next also because of the Holidays and weather will also come it to play though out the winter ( But we do have a barrel that we burn some firewood in to get warm!





I really think this is going to be a hit at the Club along with the 2x4 matches!

I have a ravine on my property that is slowly getting transformed into a multi use range, 25 yard hand gun with paper and steel and a 'walking' range with targets out to 150 yds. Santa is bringing me some more steel this year!

No lie out of the few matches I got to shoot this summer each one had one of the steel challange set up.

I originally wanted to start my competition shooting on steel challange but the matches just always go pushed so I settled for the action handgun matches..

They were super fun but the stages I had the most fun on were the steel challange..

Plans are to have steel challenge matches in the future. We are just getting started with these weekly practice matches to drum up interest!

Checkout the the Calendar, plans are for most Sunday mornings ( We are skipping the next 2 for the Holidays ) weather permitting also. Cost is just $5.00 which will be used for more steel in the future!

If you joined in one of the first classes, we were just starting to talk about starting this event.

@Csbdr looks like we will be shooting this on Sunday 12/22 as more people have been asking! Setting up will start around 9:00 am, shooting to fallow at 10:00.

I have a few steel targets that I bring to the range,I have way more fun shooting them and plinking clay pigeons than putting holes in paper.

Ten years ago I discovered an alternative to steel. We started to use soft "shoot-through" targets made by Newbold and have never gone back to steel..

Advantages:
Zero danger of ricochet so you can shoot at close range.
Four color choices and lot of different shapes and sizes.
No need to spray paint the targets ever. Lead doesn't smear on these targets.
Cheaper than steel.

Disadvantage: no clang. Long lasting, but not as long as steel.

Check them out online. Good stuff and a possible alternative for some clubs.

Today was a day that was not originally planned, because of the Holidays and the Cold! But the Director got a lot of interest and we had 10 shooters 4 of which were new! So each week this has been getting more interest, I can only imagine this in the warmer weather !

SaraSpa??? No it's at the cortland pistol club in groton

At this time we are recognizing other Clubs IDPA safety cards ( if that make sense? ) til our own safe class is done, as this is new to me I have been shooting one of my 22 rimfire pistols from low ready. ( rimfire piistols and rifles and PCC start at low ready )
