Daughter Turning 21 in 18 Months

My oldest is turning 21 in 18 months and I was wondering if any of you had your kids file for a CCW as soon as they were eligible (or before)? I'm in Orange County and our Sheriff is very pro-2a but I'm mostly wondering if she could file before her birthday so when her birthday comes she'll be good to go. It seems it takes about a year to get so I'd like to start the process soon. Honestly, I don't think she'd want to carry but I'd like her to have the license in her hand because we all know it's not going to get easier to get it in NY.

I started the process the day after I turned 21 and got mine 2 days shy of a year before I was 22.

See if she can take any "classes" before she is 21. I did. Just couldn't submit until I was 21.

It pains me to say this, but maybe call the permit office and see what they say.

Which Sheriff are you referring to? DuBois is retiring. Arteta just won the R primary. Rivers is the D candidate.

I never had my kids apply for a permit. They did it all on their own.

I would answer but I need to file for a permit to use my 1st amendment right again; I used one last month so need to pay and wait for an other one.

Call to see if they will accept early filing.

I believe she can take the classes, but have to wait to file. My daughter just turned 21, she's taking her safety class tomorrow. I told her to go asap to permit office before whatever new bullshit they have in mind goes into effect.

Check to see how long the class certification is good for, may vary from County to County.

That's where I was going with this. Our current Sheriff will be long gone before your daughter's application will hit the Sheriff's desk.

I'd wait to submit her application until she's 21 years and 1 second old. The recommendations to have her take the course prior to her birthday is sound advice. Providing the course certification doesn't expire before she turns about 22. Gotta leave enough time between certification and approval, not application submission.

She won't be able to hand in the application until she's 21, but you should be able to get, and have, everything ready to go at that time.
