Dayten’s Struggles with wood

I’m still taking a break from here, just wanted to share this with you guys about the project for my best friends parents and siblings.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to engrave Jakes face on this wood,
Nothing but trail and error. I’ve probably done Atleast 15 different methods and I finally got it perfected.
So I’ll show you guys a few of them..
So this is plywood, I’m going to use maple for the final boards. Some of the issues I came across while making these is the under eyes being way to dark, his face on the sides being way to damn light, no neck showing, shirt lacks darkness. I would show more pictures but I never took them before I left school.

Now the picture below Is freaking perfect. I felt like this was a picture that was actually pasted onto the wood, the maple is going to come out to be amazing. I Don’t really think the parents are to fond of me but I accept that. But the most important thing is I am there for their only child now and he’s there for me. Connection with eachother has grown strong than ever and it feels good to have someone there for me like he is.

Some of you maybe curious on what happened and the family is open with people talking about it.
Jake was a victim of psychosis and stopped taking his medicine a few weeks before the incident happened. Jake was having delusional thoughts and was telling his brother things like, “I want to crash my vehicle into a tree” or, “do you hear the thoughts I have in my head”etc. Jake told Connor (my friend) that he couldn’t tell the parents what he was going to say to him so the brother promised and never did.
Jake ended up going high speed off a dead end, hit something and smashed into a tree. His vehicle was caught fire and the autopsy shows he had traumatic head trauma; it was suicide.

Sorry for your loss, Dayten. It's a sad world where we can't get adequate treatment for those who are suffering from mental illnesses. I'll also add that you have an obscene amount of talent. Use that that help you and others heal from this tragedy.

That looks awesome. I'm really sorry for the loss you, and your Friend's Family are dealing with. It is sad to hear of such young people ending their lives. I've heard it said before that: Death is a permanent solution, to a temporary problem! Truly sad indeed!

Laser cutter. Only about let’s say 2-5 grand. Used something called coral draw and it went from there. I just had to figure out how to get this photo to come out like that because it’s not easy

It feels so unreal. Like the day before I was texting Jake then the next day he’s just gone and I’m working at Wendy’s and see a message from my best bud seeing his brother was in a fatal accident but they couldn’t identify the body because he was you know.... came home, FaceTimed him, cried, it’s just feels so unreal. I can’t imagine how the family feels.

2 deaths within less than a month from eachother. I have a funeral this Friday. The last month has been a complete shit storm

I thought it might be. Pretty amazing what you can do with those things. I would think a fine or "tight" grained wood might produce the best results. Obviously has to be a lighter color to show up.

I looks great. I would put some oil, something to preserve it and enhance it.
My mother embroider things in wood veneer like cedar and walnut veneers using thread and needle and different
colors and designs. So those are all around the house framed. Pretty cool stuff.

I guess the style depends on the space you thought it could go or the target person. Maybe a frame made of industrial style with some metal
or even some packaging wood to make a rugged frame would look good along with the modern laser style. ...hard to say.

But it looks awesome and I am so sorry about your loss.
We lost a local boy here too to a freak accident (just bad luck in this case). Young people are not supposed to departure so soon, specially
like that.

I got one of the boards done and I missed school the next day I come back and some fucking asshole chopped my board up. Complete dick head. What an Asshole. Can’t tell you how much tears it took me to go through making this just for an ass to chop it up because he wants to be a dick and ruin someone day
