I guess you can do things that bring people into your store or do things that drive them to go somewhere else... Your business...
Well no fee is free in my book. Using your example: if you buy and pay for a $400 gun on the internet you would be happy with a $40 markup. But, If you do the same thing and have it shipped to the same FFL and he charges you $35 for the transfer you would be saving $5. So why is charging a fee a bad thing? As Eddie Gunks said, put yourself on the other side of the counter and try to keep the bills paid.Did I say " Work for free", ummm no. But if someone is going to help me, I would help them and give them my business.
I remember in the "old days" I would find a deal and get with my FFL to get it for me. I paid him to get it for me, paid his mark up. That's not working for free.
Ok got ya now, I was referring to your previous post about ordering through a home based FFL with a 10% markup. Sorry for the confusion.Sorry Cattafly, I'm not getting your scenario. Who is making the mark up there? In my scenario I am asking the FFL to order, receive, and transfer, he makes the mark up and transfers.
What is it you're not getting?
Most places won't do private transfers anymore unless they are selling you a gun. Can thank Cuomo for that. Most private ffl's will charge average $25-$35 for transfer.
I'd rather pay a FFL a $40 transfer fee and order online than pay full MSRP and sales tax at a gun store.
Some of the LGS guys claim that they dont make $40 profit on a sale anyway so they are ahead .
As far as the $10 safeact transfer, I'll buy some ammo or something from him as well.
One of our members charged us $0.00 for a face to face transfer so I bought some stuff .
Does Gander Outdoors do transfers ( face to face or online orders?) I know Runnings did not.
I don't charge for private transfers at all, simply because I refuse to profit off the SAFE act as an FFL.
I recall the politicians hooting it up that dealers should be happy that we would be making a whopping ten bucks off a private transfer. Guess they forgot about the 2000 lock law that mandated that we provide a trigger lock, and not just any skimpy plastic trigger lock, with each transfer. The " NY compliant trigger lock " alone even at dealer cost eats up half the $10 transfer fee ( for those that charge $10 ). I just ask the private transfer guys to bring their own lock with the gun so I don't have to concern myself with that issue.
