This national debt ceiling always get passed around like a cheap lay by the media whenever a vote comes up. Always silly talk by the gov about default, as if there is any chance of that. If push comes to shove not a single senator actually wants to see the usa default, so it will not occur. Debt denominated in a currency that one can mint with little issue has no reason to be defaulted.
Also the reason the republicans are fighting this is laughably transparent. They are not supporting it because they don't have to; they want it to pass yet vote against it so they can pretend they care about debt. Probably quite irritated a couple of dems also want to reign things in. The exact same thing, but from opposite parties, has happened so many times before. Both parties adore debt and anybody who has any doubt about that need only run a search on national deficit by year. Superimpose by president or which party had which house. It's all the same.
We interviewed the Georgia lawyer who in 2010 was first to float the now-hot idea of issuing a trillion-dollar-coin to avoid the federal debt ceiling. He says he was just answering a ""silly question" in a "pointless online bull session." Things went from there.
Guess Biden and Pelosi are factually correct when they say it costs nothing... at least when you have the power to print it out of thin air. As for the rest of us it will cost dearly but let's not go there....
