North Korea Could Launch an EMP Attack Now
Washington Times ran an article suggesting that North Korea has already achieved the capability of launching an EMP attack on the US:

North Korea now has an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of delivering a nuclear weapon to the United States, as demonstrated by their successful launch and orbiting of a satellite on Dec. 12. Certain poorly informed pundits among the chattering classes reassure us that North Korea is still years away from being able to miniaturize warheads for missile delivery, and from developing sufficiently accurate missiles to pose a serious nuclear threat to the United States. Philip Yun, director of San Francisco’s Ploughshares Fund, a nuclear disarmament group, reportedly said, “The real threat from the launch was an overreaction that would lead to more defense spending on unnecessary systems. The sky is not falling. We shouldn’t be panicked.”

In fact, North Korea is a mortal nuclear threat to the United States— right now.

This is today and has been such a serious and existential threat but the sad part is that only like .25% of our country knows and cares about it.

Even supposodedly smart people and pundits and media types all dismiss NKs capabilities and use misleading terms like "NK is still years away from developing re entry vehicles capable of withstanding the atmospheric re entry". You don't need that for an EMP that detonated 300 miles above is. You can even launch it and deliver and position it all within a satellite.

You can potentially launch something relatively primitive like an SA2 surface to air missile. Or a scud variant from a freighter in the gulf of Mexico.

Etc.

I don't care how many people think I'm crazy this is a hill i will die on. I will sound the alarm on this every chance I get. If I only get 1 more person to be curious enough to research it and get involved it would be worth it.

All the information is out there. Its not readily available on fox news or cnn but if you look it's all publically available information to connect the dots.

Think I'm crazy? Who on December 6th 1941 would have imagined we would be suddenly and brutally attacked in an unconventional and imaginative way?

Who on September 10 2001 would have thought a few bold and imaginative people living in caves would change the world with a few guys with box cutters.


The point is something seems crazy because it's not common or readily thought of. Enemies look for vulnerabilities.

A few short years ago I stood within spitball range of what purported to be North Korea’s “peaceful Earth observation” satellite. As part of a small cadre of foreign journalists, I was there, for my client NBC News, to be shown the launch of the satellite and the proof it was not military in nature.

We had made the three-hour train ride from Pyongyang to the far northwest corner of the country, where the Sohae space launch base was located. No foreigner had ever been there before, and none has visited since.

And among that group, I was the only real “rocket scientist”: a professional spaceflight engineer. I’d been with the space shuttle program for 30 years at Mission Control in Houston, and now, retired, I was a “space consultant” for NBC News.

The Sohae launch site is geographically suitable for southward launches into near polar orbits, not crossing any other national boundaries for thousands of miles. The orbit chosen is indeed one suitable for Earth resources observations, lending plausibility to what might be a cover story. But it’s also about the only orbit reachable from this launch site that doesn’t overfly neighboring countries.

There’s another feature of the orbit, possibly accidental, possibly not. It’s determined by the immutable laws of orbital motion, my specialty in Mission Control for more than 20 years. On the very first pass around Earth, after crossing near Antarctica, the satellite tracks northwards off the west coast of South America, over the Caribbean, and right up the US East Coast. Sixty-five minutes after launch, it’s passing a few hundred miles west of Washington DC. And with a minor steering adjustment during launch it could pass right overhead.

What might be inside that half-ton package is literally anybody’s guess. That is might be a functioning applications satellite for the betterment of the population is harder and harder to believe. That it might be something harmful—and no heat shield would be needed if it were supposed to be triggered in space—is getting terrifyingly easier to consider.

So knowing what’s aboard that satellite becomes a vital issue of national security. And my personal experience in North Korea on that very question troubles me more and more.

This is the part that's always had me thinking. What has NK ever done with it's citizens best interests in mind? Serious question. I don't recall ever reading about any scientific work done there, other than nuclear. Any health care provided there from what I see is provided by humanitarian aide from the rest of the world. I don't think the NK Gov has ever cared much about it's citizens other than how many years they can get out of them in forced labor. Any video coming out of there, just watch the people, that's the most rehearsed happiness and love for their masters I've ever seen. They're all deathly afraid of being sent to a detention camp or parts of their families to be sent off and never seen from again.
I highly doubt there's anything in their satellites of a true scientific nature, and even skeptical of reconnaissance uses. Just what good does it do them to see what we've got on the ground here, that they can't see from Google Earth lol.

A shit ton of doubters though. Hell, almost 13k customers here lost electric last night from a little storm and were bitching. It doesn't take much to ruin everyone's vision of life.

Well their opinion is based on technology from 1969, even NK has more advance technology to produce a larger EMP by now. And also considering this equipment below is small beans compared to what a more advanced EMP producing warhead can produce. I would still consider them a viable threat.

That was also before sensitive solid state electronics and micro chips.

Starfish prime was in an era of vacuum tubes which were much less vulnerable to the effects of EMP waves.

Unfortunately for us, our electronics have advanced exponentially since the 1960s and in the process of evolving have become much more vulnerable to this threat.

And there have been significant technological weaponry advances since then. Once strategists realized the value of EMP to disable and disrupt they have developed weapons specifically designed to generate stronger pulses.

The Soviets/Russians still have the project K results classified. Only the damage to Kazakhstan has been released.

Interesting, it states (which I hadn't heard yet) that the most recent NK missile test was not a failure but specifically took a different trajectory and was delibretely detonated or self destructed at a specific point.
