Does the village board have a secret database with a list of residents that own the newly banned "weapons" and have a way to check them off the naughty list when they remove them?

Assault weapon means:

Agreed. But, the rifle with the handguard is still deemed illegal.
Can't wait to see AR platform rifles without any pistol-style grips (including spurs), only FRS stocks, and no handguards being fired at ranges by shooters using upper-mounted scopes and oven mitts.

Apparently a similar ordinance was upheld. So, Deerfield did the same thing. Just like all bans now look like the SAFE Act (with even more restrictions).
This is why national organizations MUST challenge these laws wherever they spring up. Otherwise, these laws metastasize into heretofore 2A-friendly jurisdictions.

None of these went to the supreme court ... nothing has gone to SCOTUS in 10 years, I'm trying to hunt down precedent where local laws failed constitutional muster i know i came across them in the past.

SCOTUS (with Scalia still on it) refused to take the Highland Park case. It "went" to the court and couldn't get enough Justices on board to actually bring the case in front of the court for consideration.
