Delay...ugh

It's fairly normal. I've heard that more people are getting delayed recently. I'm not really sure of the reason though.
I heard last weekend that NICS was down for a few days? May cause a back up.

I always (always) get bumped to further review, but immediately get approved. With or without SSN.

Mine always go through immediately. I have a unique last name. Only my family has it in the USA. So it's a good chance in the only one in the USA with that name.

Been told, after getting a 3 day delay myself, that when the check system gets backed up they just delay some to get things moving again. But a friend who just spent 8 months waiting to get his pistol permit got denied when he went to do the NICS. Now his lawyer says it's likely to take 6 months or so to clear it up.

Anybody see the irony in this? That all so important pistol permit investigation, and yet a denied check.
In my latest purchase, it took a good 10-15 minutes for the check to be completed. I was wondering if I was going to see my first 'delay'.

The last time I bought a fire arm the shop owner got no NICS response, resubmitted and got no response, after a few days he said if they don't respond within a certain amount of time he is entitled to complete the transaction. I don't know if he was Being me but that's the was it unfolded.

I have yet to ever be delayed on a NICS but I think that's probably because as far as I've ever been able to figure out I'm the only person on the planet with my first/last name combination.

Booooooo. Sucks to hear that, it's just a delay not a denial. I've never had it happen to me but my buddy had it happen a few months back. Those fuckers better get back on thier game.

I went to pick up my new Glock yesterday and was put into a delay too. First time it's ever happened to be, but sounds like it's happening to a lot of people lately.

Is my reading comprehension completely shot right now or does this website say that after a certain amount of time, you can lawfully transfer the firearm if you don't hear back from NICS? According to the chart, if I was delayed on Thursday, I can pick it up the following Wednesday if it's still in delay?

If you get a delay they give you a date that you can transfer the firearm. It is three business days on the fourth business day you could pick up the firearm. So if it is a Thursday as noted above, Friday his one day Monday is two days Tuesdays three days so you can pick it up Wednesday morning.
There's no rhyme or reason why you get a delay. It's most likely because someone has a name similar to yours.
I have several customers that run into delays all the time. What I do is win they order a gun or when one is being shipped I run the NICS check. This way by the time a gun arrives the check has cleared they can sign the bottom of page 2 and be on their way with no further delay.

yes, you can pick it up on thursday. it is no longer in "delay", the status changes to "open"
the FFL is not required to transfer but they can. i know gander makes you wait additional time.
if a deny comes in after the waiting period and after you transferred the gun then it is in the ATF's hands. they deal with it. the FFL is clear.
