Go figure right, my taxes will go up. Honestly if this passes I will have to sell my house and move into a cheaper one in short order.
my taxes due to local tax increases has already gone up $430/month in under 5 years and guess what my school, city, and special vote school taxes will be going up. I figure another $40:month all combined. I took a pay cut for a better job and schedule and my wife has received 1 raise in 6 years after consistently getting raises for years. Part of why I took the pay cut was for great health insurance That’s cheap. If these asshole do this and make my wife and mines taxes go up 20% my healt are will cost $2000-$2500 monthly instead of $460/month with very little to no out of pocket expenses. I can’t absorb that.

We have the party we deserve.

Unfortunately we all know if that the next president running for office said his goal is to reduce the deficit to 0% and then end up with a slight surplus to start paying it off--and I mean he was truly being honest, plausible, and we believed him--he'd get about 600 votes. Half of America cannot even manage their own finances properly, so when they are also expected to endorse the country paying off its debt in ways that will cause them real pain they have no interest in it.

There is actually nothing the politicians can do because we won't let them. We're too fucking hopeless.

Look at the last time the gov was shut down for a while. People were panicked like idiots. Even though their pay cut was just temporary and they'd get it back. So many people live hand to mouth they can't even handle losing a single pay check without immediately resorting to pay day loans and credit cards. These are not people who vote in their own best interest because they lack the intelligence to know what it is.

Did anybody believe it, though? I didn't. And the deficit has just gotten even worse under his reign.

I know that to actually get a balanced budget will require vast tax increases or vast reduction in services.

Apparently last year was a record year for tax receipts due to business growth but spending is out of control and both parties love to spend.

Actually if we kept spending at 2018 levels for 10 years we would be in much better shape. As you pointed out we had a record year for tax receipts. We don't have a tax issue, we have a spending issue. We need to stop the increased spending. Hiring freeze for all govt workers and cuts where appropriate.

Irresponsibility? I guess most people believe that it is/was the pure stupidity and ignorance of every government leader we've had for the last 50-60 years. I cant blame them, I don't. I believe it was by design. Taking the US off the gold standard in 1970, the deindustrialization of the United states. the importation of illegal immigrants

I believe it is the intentional de- construction of the United States . The history of the fiat currency we adopted in 1970 has never worked at any point in history , All paper money has failed since the Chinese first used over a thousand years ago. The French tried it again in the 1700's around the birth our country and it was a total failure. You are absolutely correct about China, but look what's coming out of universities these days. Those kids have been brainwashed into *wanting* that sort of totalitarian system.

And certainly the people in charge want it. China may be a terrible place to live if you're a common man, but it's a great place to be if you're the one in charge.

China and Russia want to move the world away from the dollar but it is unlikely to happen. For the chinese yuan to become the new petrodollar the chinese would have to allow it to trade freely with the resulting capital inflows and outflows. They don't like that idea at all and therefore it simply won't be accepted by the rest of the world.

I have been following a guy named James Rickards for a number of years. He has written a number of books on recent economic trends. He predicts we will have both deflation and inflation. The world economy is slowing down - certain european countries have had negative interest rates for a number of years. The chinese economy (to the extent anyone can tell) also seems to be slowing down. From an economic perspective deflation is more likely.

And yet.....there is just this tremendous amount of debt, both in this country and worldwide. I don't see how it ever gets repaid back in full without central banks inflating their way out of it or simply defaulting on the debt.

I like Rickards alot. His books are interesting and he makes some very good points. Yet he has been calling for a huge global economic catastrophe for years now. In his latest book he recommends any investment portfolio be dedicated 50% to assets that protect against deflation and 50% in assets that protect against inflation. In other words he's covering all the bases and doesn't have any more insight into the world economy than most people. Doom and gloom has been predicted by alot of people for the past 5 years and yet their predictions have yet to be correct. That doesn't mean it can't happen tomorrow.

We will have another stock market selloff and another recession in our future. That's just the nature of business cycles. This country will suffer a bit, but nothing compared to the rest of the world.

I think the problem is people are dumb sheep and believe what they are told. Also the media completely lies on this subject because the polls tell us if people have to lose their current health care the do t want universal health care. Do we remember what Obama said? If you like your plan you can keep it.... then he muttered you just won’t be able to afford it while walking away so no one heard that part.
