(D-Fla.) formally introduced a bill on Monday to ban assault weapons.

The legislation, called the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018, was introduced less than two weeks after the mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that left 17 people dead. The gunman used an AR-15 assault weapon during the shooting, one of the many firearms that would be banned under the bill.

The legislation would make it “unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon.”

However, the ban wouldn't apply to semi-automatic weapons that were "lawfully possessed" when the measure went into effect.

The bill also requires the attorney general to create a public record of semiautomatic assault weapons that have been used in crimes.

Deutch had promised to introduce such a ban during a CNN town hall event last week.

That was a state ban they dismissed. This is a federal bill.

Impressive. This proposed bill is an amalgam of New York's SAFE Act and the bans in place in Connecticut which prohibit AKs and ARs as well as "copies" of such firearms.

This kind of legislative opportunism can only succeed in the heat of the moment in the emotional climate after a horrific tragedy. For if sensible people can make themselves heard, the myths surround the "success" of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban can be exposed. If presented correctly, people willing to listen (which excludes almost all Liberal Progressives) can be made to understand that the prior ban did nothing to decrease gun violence.

Let us hope that representatives and senators from the real United States refuse to be a party to this gutting of the 2nd Amendment. We know that representatives and senators from the loony Left Coast and the nutty Northeast will absolutely support this national SAFE Act on steroids.

Dems love picking winners and losers. Anyway this draft of a "bill" has been around for quite some time and Congressman Douche talks about it whenever he sees a microphone. I do not think they introduced this yet since it does not have a number assigned, I reviewed lists of items added to the House hopper and did not see it, I searched the House transcripts with keyword "assault" and it does not show, and I scanned thru the CSpan tapes. I am sure Congressman Douche will do something with this when he gets to DC but so far it may just be another press release.

For those interested, this bill includes the idea of creative intent that criminalizes ownership of parts that can be assembled into an "assault weapon." Ownership of receivers of prohibited firearms would be illegal.

you would be correct, any firearm that has a detachable magazine would be banned. ALL FIREARMS WITH A DETACHABLE MAGAZINE.

How many have to be out there before they qualify as "common use" ? The Courts and our Congress are so screwed up on "common sense" that it is pathetic

And I hate to compliment anything evil but the commies/left have planned the inner destruction of our Country for decades now and their efforts are paying dividends for them.
