Admittedly, I don't spend a lot of time in malls, but We often go to the Destany Mall area to watch and photograph the eagles by the warm water discharge. If you're close by and haven't it's truly a sight to behold. We've seen dozens and dozens of eagles and they often put on an amazing show.

I've done lots of work in Syracuse and have seen lots of eagles over the years. We had one land on the boom of one of our large excavators and stared us down for a minute before flying off one morning.

This place ranks very high on the list of place's I'll never stop foot on without a gun.

Shoplifting is rampant
Fights happen almost weekly
And it's really just a shell of its former original self.
Best thing to do would be demolition

But reading these posts have given me a new place to go and see bald eagles

I keep hearing they want to turn it into "affordable" housing. Like do a less than 15 minute mini city type deal. Have stores inside where people can just walk out of their apartment inside, and walk to the grocery store.

I still call it the Carousel Mall, only because that is only what I know it as...

Personally, I never agreed that they should've added on to it. I remember my family laughing at the whole thing. Still remember when they were driving the pylons in and they were having all kinds of issues with the land itself. Then Pyramid did some rank shit too.

Only thing I ever go to that mall for is Best Buy. I drive onto that deck thingy, walk inside and get what I need and walk out. That's about all it's good for. I used to use Radio Shack, Ritz Camera, and CompUSA back when those existed...

It’s a terrible place and SPD doesn’t care. When I worked for TJ Maxx, if I told you how many employees I took out of the store in the mall for stealing, you wouldn’t believe me. And if you looked at my phone back then you’d think I had a fetish for overweight black women.

I've gone there a few times weekdays right at opening (10:00) and only seen a very few people, none of which posed any threat...evenings, weekends, well that's just not likely to happen.

The first bald eagle I ever saw in the Syracuse area was sitting in a tree between the mall parking and the lake, that was in '94!

When they built the mall they brought in hundreds of trucks loaded with giant blocks of Styrofoam. I think the entire place floats on the swampy, oil-slicked cespool it was built over!

A friend of mine who is a very good photographer goes there to photograph the Eagles all the time. He’s gotten some very stunning shots of the Mature and young Eagles.

We have quite a few Bald Eagles near us. We are in the extreme SW of Chautauqua Co.
The powers that be have put up a bunch of nesting poles, but the eagles choose not to use them. We have a wetland area across the road from our house. There are eagles soaring around for food every day.

My mother went to that mall on the same day, in the morning before it was shut down. She was there to return some jewelry, but the store was dark. She waited around to see if they would open, and eventually a handful of guys in suits showed up, opened the gate, went in, and brought out the employees. Apparently they'd been robbed and locked in the back room.

A couple things strike me as odd, here. One, why are guys in suits showing up to release employees? I would have expected the police to show up in response to a robbery. Two, how is this not in the news? Possible answer to #2: maybe the mall shutdown was in response to this robbery?

Haven't been there in several years, and I live 15 minutes away. When I do go there, I make sure it's in the morning, when the usual suspects are still in bed.
