This post is more of a rant than it is "politics or law" but with that said, here it is.
I'm 51 years old. I got my NYS Pistol Permit at age 17, it was amended to concealed carry at age 21.
I began competing in practical pistol competition in 1982. I hung up my holster in 2015. 33 years of USPSA/IPSC, NRA Action Pistol, and IDPA.
As a kid, I remember working in my dad's auto repair shop all summer so I could earn enough green to purchase reloading supplies, holsters, and one summer I earned enough to buy me am H&K 91. An ACTUAL H&K....not a half assed copy.
As I look back on my shooting "career" and time spent as a firearms owner/collector, all I remember is losing my ability to purchase, collect, and use the firearms of my choice. Long gone is my H&K, any magazine that holds over 10 rounds of ammo, the vast majority of the wide body pistols I shot IPSC with, and the UZI my dad gave me for my 16th birthday. NYS one by one, bit by bit, took it all away.
I also remember having faith in the NRA. Then came SCOPE, then came GOA, then came XYZ...all had NO problem taking my money in the form of donations or membership fees. Not a single one of them overturned a single anti-gun law that was passed. Not a one. In fact, the ratio of wins vs losses is SO lopsided that the citizens of NYS who own firearms and paid these entities for services that were never rendered should form a class action suit for fraud.
Politicians....from the likes of Pataki, D'Amato, Quattrochocci, Errgo, Gallivan, Funke, etc...all lied straight faced to me. "Elect US and we'll protect your rights." The only rights I have left are to purchase technology from the 1960-70"s. Everything modern either has to be bastardized to be compliant or no one will sell it to you.
My colleagues ...especially FUDDS whose only care in the world is hunting deer, waterfowl, and spit polishing the 3k Beretta over/under before a round of sporting clays cant be bothered to get off their FUDD asses and vote out the gun grabbers. They're kept "fat, drunk, and happy" by the NYSDEC and Emperor Andy who suddenly is a "hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman" just like them.
The object lesson here?
Once something is gone you'll NEVER get it back. In roughly 35 years I've gone from a time in my life where responsible people could purchase the big boy toys of their choice to being relegated to graft, corruption, lies, and purchasing bastardized firearms that meet NYS compliance. In essence, 1960's and 1970's technology.
Give it 20 more years and all you'll be able to get here will be air guns...if you're lucky.
It is for these very reasons why I have ZERO faith in anyone who says they have "the answer" or they have "the strategy."
I can't find a SINGLE example of where they were right.
