Very true. I love how the author of the article still has a somewhat condescending tone about him though. Having said that, it's what I've been saying to people all along. It's not so much about skin color or economics or what bathroom you take a piss in. It's about culture. The culture of the right (and I would argue the culture that made this country great) is under siege by a group of elitists (mostly concentrated in the cities) who want are over educated and honestly don't work all that hard who are trying to tell you how to live your life. Push back is inevitable. I just hope enough of the younger generation (my age and younger) isn't completely brainwashed by the education system. K-12 and especially college is a breeding ground for indoctrination into white working class self-hatred.

Eh, he kind of just presents rural America as a monolith. I'm no expert, but I'm sure lots of rural Republicans have all different sorts of reasons why they choose to be Republicans (or simply Trump voters). I always take something that paints with that broad of a brush with a grain of salt.

The article really made me sit back and think...wow...never looked at it that way.

It made God and religion the main focus of the mindset he's claiming republicans have vs democrats. I agree with him when it comes to the idea that we see people as evil, and liberals see them as good.

We blame criminals, we blame the lazy and poor for their own misfortunes, we blame ourselves for our own shortcomings.

Liberals blame circumstance in every situation.. "well that wouldn't have happened IF" type stuff.

I just don't like the direction it went with "god is the savior from evil" and all of that bullshit. I don't really subscribe to that, it's fine if other people do but I don't like being lumped into a group that isn't really representative of who I am. I felt like when he made the comment about the two different outlooks he was on the right track, then he lost me with the rest.

Hillary lost because she's a horrible woman, not because of an email hack. The four kids that tortured that other kid in chicago are horrible racist people, not victims of a racist society that compelled them to act out. Same goes for those people on the bus in Albany. Same goes for Adam Lanza. Etc etc etc.

I agree that liberals believe that man is inherently good but societial issues make do bad things.

Conservatives know that some people will do bad things just because they can or it's an easier path.

Also the author is wrong about police forces. The rural departments usually have better equipment than urban departments because they only have a few officers to equip while a urban city has thousands to equip. They might have one or two machines for a whole city of millions for a few thousand cops to use ( which means only a special unit even sees it and normal officers and detectives never have access to it). A rural department has thevsame access by simply calling the state agency to do it.

It is the suburban departments that have the best of both worlds
