Do you shoot/own a .375 H&H or other Big Bore?

By Classic definitions, the .375 H&H was considered the minimum for African "Big Five" but now they utilize power factor formulas...I have a .376 Steyr whose case is not physically as large, but operates under higher pressures, giving it close to the same velocity. (think .308 v. 30'06)
I think the key lies in how big a hole and how deep it goes...I wonder how a high quality bullet from either a .338 Lapua/RUM would perform versus the same weight in a .375?

With the two calibers you just mentioned, (338 lapua/RUM)
I would say pretty damn good.

My 458 was carried in Africa and took big game, NOT ME...................just iron sights................it was carried on top of the right shoulder and there is a distinct thinning of the blueing, hand width, where the hunter's hand held it for hours, while stalking in the sweaty heat.

Heavy is good for recoil reduction.

There was someone out your way that I bought some Remington Magazines from, maybe some other stuff as well, that had a Custom Shop .458 that he wanted to sell, but we could never get together, and fell off the radar....you?

I speak of Barn's Bullets frequently enough, and somehow through the years and picking them up here and there have come into some pretty interesting designs, one of which is a Round nose Brass/Bronze Solid in .338...we loaded a few in the Lapua and tried them on Steel Plates: TORE the Plate off the stand!
I think if a Dangerous Animal were shot with one, given the velocity that it would create a new alimentary canal from stem to stern.

Still softer than the Barrel steel, and they're "Bore Riders" drive on bands while the bullet is the bore diameter and the bands are cut by the grooves...while not "AP" I damn well bet many at velocity will hole punch level three or four.

Legally I think they would qualify as AP.

Copper jacketed lead 6.8 bullets routinely punch through 316 SS, 3/8" thick.
