My wife went for a physical with a new doctor last month. As part of the Q & A info gathering, she was asked if there are any guns in the household. Apparently, these questions are perfectly legal. as least in the state of NY, and might even be required to be asked. This plays right into the Red Flag laws which can lead to confiscation of your firearms indefinitely. As a point of reference both myself and my wife have had CCW's for over 30 years and had the target restrictions removed immediately after the Bruen decision. I just went to a new doc this past week for a yearly physical. He had typical new patient questions but did not ask about firearms. Then again, i dont own anything except handguns now anyways and the state already knows that too.

Correct answer is none of your business what I own , just like on their questionnaire what is your household family income I always answer 0 .

My doc of 18 years never asked. He retired so now I see a different doc, in the same office. Seen her 3-4 times for regular check ups and she hasn't asked. Glad this subject came up though as I have time to think of a pithy answer for my new doc, should she ask.

Doc say time for the yearly question sheet that the Inc. company requires I don't know what the questions all are it its a about a page long she might ask me 2 or 3 questions that's all and she goes down the page checking everything no or whatever looks good she thinks its all bullshit questions

FWIW if this was a general practitioner, they are not qualified to test for mental competency. No more qualified to do dental work or heart surgery. I'm thinking malpractice was committed.

Are you legally required to answer? Unless I'm legally compelled to do so, which I doubt is even possible given the 5th, my only response would be to state that you are not at liberty to answer such questions. Period.

The pediatricians are worse. We had to change doctors because our old one retired. The new doctor had a 10 page questionaire I had to fill out. About 6 pages in there was a sub-section on firearms. It asked if there were guns in the house. If yes, there were follow up questions asking if the guns were locked up, if the child had access to lead based ammunition, and some others. I answered no and below it I wrote "Our children will never be exposed to dangerous firearms". After the appointment I stopped at the nearby gun shop and let the little one see some guns..he loves guns.

Luckily once our son turned 3 we went to a small town general doctor. They dont ask stupid questions.

We've seen the effort in setting the narrative that owning a gun is a health issue. I was ask that question by my doctor and I simply told him it wasn't a concern for him. He replied that I didn't answer the question. lol I ask him "how many times he banged the hot nurse?" He got my Point.

I like my doctor but I made sure I viewed what he was typing before he saved it in their system.

My Dr. asked if I had guns about 10 years ago. I asked him why he was asking and what it had to do with the purpose of my visit. He said something about gun safety. I never answered and he didn't ask again.

If I didn't like him I'd ask what kind of firearm safety training he's received, then give him shit about practicing in an area he's unqualified.

That happened to me. I responded with “are there sex toys or dildos in your home?” They no longer tried to ask me questions like that.

The medical profession as a whole has lost the lions share of my respect, and trust for that matter. Mine keeps asking me about the shingles vaccine. Honestly, the word "vaccine" enrages me. Maybe it's the best thing since sliced bread, but I don't want it.
