Does it matter?

If Russia uses tactical nuclear weapons, what's NATO going to do? Write a strongly worded letter? Russia won't do much more damage with small nukes than they've already done with relentless bombardment of Ukranian cities.

I don't give a damn about Ukraine. If our DoD wants to send a portion of its budget to Ukraine so that Ukrainians can degrade Russia's military without risking American lives...fine. That's a sound military fiscal strategy. Especially, if we throw our older soon-to-be-retired equipment into that grinder. Seems like it protects us in the long run and sends a message to China regarding how we'd respond to their potential assault on Taiwan.

Ukraine cannot win. They simply do not have the numbers. But, if our Pentagon and Zelinsky want to fight to the last Ukranian... so be it. Screw all of them.

Before Obama, the USA and Russia were Allies.

Something this country desperately needs during the ascension of China.

We were in pretty good shape.

If Russia uses any nuke, that is an international red line. Nobody will be able to support him.

Hopefully no economically powerful nations would still support him.

Though, Asian and Middle Eastern dictators, that already hate the West, will.

NATO would likely dismantle the Russian military with conventional forces, at least the parts of it that are in Ukraine.

They might go so far as eliminating the Russian strategic nuclear weapons via stealth strikes with conventional weapons.

Why?

Russia is already killing Ukraine with conventional weapons.

Ukraine is losing an entire generation of productive workers in a meat grinder with a forgone conclusion.

Knowing that is already happening, why would NATO directly attack Russia for using tactical nuclear weapons?

If anything, tactical nuclear weapons could bring about an end to the conflict and save lives in the long run. You know.... like when The United States used nuclear weapons to end the war in the pacific.

I don't support Russia. I never will. I don't really give a damn about Ukraine. Thus, I would not support any action that would put American armed forces in direct conflict with Russia.

Because use of nuclear weapons is a red line that the international community can't abide anyone crossing.

Even the middle eastern nation's that hate the US won't want it.

That would upset the precedent that you can't use them. If Russia gets away with using tactical nukes in Ukraine without serious consequences, then they'll use them all over the place.

If you were Egypt, or Syria, would you want Russia nuking stuff on your soil? Even if it's your enemies that are getting nuked, it's still your country.

What would stop them from selling tactical nukes then ? Sure, *that's* a world we want to live in, where SADMs and whatever the Russian version of a Davy Crockett looks like are for sale in all the well stocked arms bazaars.

Then Iran has cover to smuggle them to Hamas too.

Imagine if the next Bin Laden could get his hands on Nukes

No, the current taboo on use of nuclear weapons is very much in our interest to maintain, even at the cost of American lives. The alternative is many many more American lives, including civilians down the road.
